How do these compare for size with the Britains ACW range?
Would they be compatible? Thanks

Hi
I try not to use WB with Conte, K&C, or any 30mm figures I prefer for WB to stand alone - My opinion is that they lack substance and vigor. When WB sold out I thought that the new owners might just consider a move to 30mm
If you want to use them they are OK at a glance - (no disrespect to WB each to their own) ;)

I use a lot of Conte and Britains together, and for me they go extremely well together, to the point that I look at my large diorama of Pickett's Charge and can hardly remember which is which without turning them over. Britains is making more dynamic pieces now in many cases - just look at some of their Union loading pieces for example.

As far as Collectors Showcase goes, I have some of three sets from that manufacturer, which I display alone - mostly because they just don't fit with the dioramas I have going with Conte, Britains, and Frontline figures. Not the look, but the units represented. That said, they do have a slightly different proportion and size than Britains. I think they could be displayed together but are not a perfect mesh.

Forgot to mention I think UKREB uses CS and WB together and HE IS the ACW guru !!!!!!!

Also The LT also mixes Conte and WB togther they also go very well together.

Scott and curassier I can blend the mounted figures ok with both WBritain and get away with it but there's a noticeable difference in scale CSC are are 30mm vs 56mm and 54mm and the unmounted figures I feel would be over bearing.....The Lt.

W. Britains and the older Conte ACW figures go together perfectly.
The CS sets can be used with W. Britains as well although a little chunkier.

Old Conte, ONTC, and some of the old Britains were sculpted by Ken Osen. So they all go well together with the new First Gear Britains. I have the CS artillery sets and they go with Britains to. The CS are more dynamic and the painting is definitely different but size wise match well.

I have CS and Britains mixed in my ACW set up and I think they look fine together. Size match is almost perfect. -- Al

Hi Jonathan

I'm a little late in adding to this thread as I think most of the guys have more than clarified your original question and I agree with all of their comments that in the main CS are compatible with Britains and Conte. However, for what it's worth I'll just add a little more detail on a few of the CS sets.

Their first series of Reb infantry and the Iron Brigade were somewhat "taller" than either Britains or Conte and therefore quite noticable when placed alongside them. I have to admit they were not amongst my favourite figures for a whole host of reasons and I ended up converting and repainting all of them but obviously could not do much with the height. But their Union & Confederate artillery crews released about the same time are something else and very compatible in height with Britains etc. They are still my favourite gunners by far and I have most of the other companies artillery releases. The action poses, the stance of the figures, the perfect drabness of their uniforms, the gunnery officer barking out "Fire" are simply a joy to work with-I ended up buying 3 sets of each and have never regretted it.

I have attached a rejected shot that I took for one of my dios that gives you a good idea of scale against Conte/Old & New Britain's and the Reb CS artillery crews. As they are all together in the picture it might just help to confirm what the rest of the guys have already posted. The front line gunners are all CS releases except third from left which is Britains-back lines are a mix of WB & Conte

The CS ACW series that followed their initial sets improved with each release culminating in their latest Mosby set which are some of the best mounted action figures in my collection-so far.
Hope that helps

As an aside which has more than suprised me is you, an inhabitant of London, who is mildly interested in The American Civil War????? Holy Cow! and there was me thinking I was the only Blue & Grey unicorn in the whole of the UK :D

Thanks to all gents and especially Rob for the picture.
Sadly I am a bit of an ACW enthusiast - though i travel to the US a lot for work and have been lucky enough to to visit some of the more famous eastern battlefields.
What will horrify you even more is that I as thinking of using the figures for wargaming - a sort of intermediate effort between big battles and skirmish, filling out units with Conte plastics and the new metal figures from the chap who does some very nice 1/32 Russian Napoleonics in plastic - is it black hat or something like that?
This may be madness and I may ha:)ve to revert to 28mm but I'm considering it.

At a number of war gaming conventions that I attend, there is usually a game that uses 54mm K/C and F.O.V. tanks with a variety of various mfg. figures for WW2. There has also been AWI gaming with 54mm figures. Skirmish rules were used and rewritten where appropriate..Michael

Curassier, I war game from time to time with 54mm. Ancients, Dark ages, Civil war, Zulu, Napoleonic and WW2. Very impressive sight to behold, more effort in moving troops{ I've considered multibasing the Conte and Britains on steel bases but haven't done it, Painted plastics, yes}} and somewhat relaxed beer and pretzel rules.I have more troops than are needed for wargames and always have to resist throwing everything on the table in an effort to maintain a manageable evenings game.
I do the same thing, collect the factory metals, paint assorted plastics and metal kits including the ones I mold and spin cast myself.
As far as compatibility with Conte and Britain's I really have no comment on the CS ACW troops. I don't have any- yet.Have considered the Arty sets but I have full battery's already .I have several of the Zulu war Mounted Police and they fit nice with my Zulu collection.Hoping to add some CS Napoleonic too.
54mm for me, is the way to go. I've done all the other scales already!
