Hi folks,
just a little shelf top from the ACW..........they guard my collection of civil war books on the shelf below.

the message coming up the line to me as corps commander from my fine cavalry detachment
is that whereas they welcome the recent retirement of many K&C Yankees, they are concerned at the lack
of recent rebel reinforcements..........can more K&C cavalry be released in the nick of time to save the Confederacy ?

Fully concur they are the very best sculpts of Reb troopers I have in all of my mounted ACW collection. In fact I must confess that I'm still hurtin' over Andy's decision to ditch his K&C ACW series :(

Really wonderful ! I have and I love them all , I hope in new releases but it seems difficult ! Thank you for sharing your dioramas ...

I have always enjoyed King & Country's ACW figures and have several in my collection. I still think the mounted General Stuart is the best ever done by any company! UKRed, do you know for sure that the ACW line is finished? :(

must admit I didn't know that the ACW range was definitely finished...... even though it was clearly not going anywhere fast....... would appreciate your info on this also UkReb.

the shame is that the figures of Lee & his Generals that was the last thing off the production line were absolutely superb pieces of sculpting. remember discussion about this on the Forum at the time.

Over the years K & C have never been fully committed to the Civil War. They made some nice glossy sets and the first attempt at matte was so so. The second much better but this is an area where Britain's and later on First Legion have excelled and I never sensed that but for the occasional set K & C was deeply committed to the set, particularly during the recently concluded Sesquicentennial.

In my opinion, the KC confederates are the best for the quality-price ratio, that's why I started my metal collection buying them. First legion ones are also very good, but the price is very different! And the KC confederate cavalry is simply the best.

Yes, they're well made but I don't know if we will see much more of them. It's more likely that you'll see them from FL.

Hi Guys,

Much as I hate to disagree with “JAZZEUM” his statement that K&C has “never been fully committed to the Civil War” requires a wee bit of clarification...
In the not so distant past K&C has produced a fair number of the following:

(i) Union Cavalry (both mounted and dismounted)
(ii) Confederate Cavalry (primarily mounted)
(iii) Confederate Infantry in action
(iv) Union Infantry in action
(v) Personality sets and...Individual figures of many of the leading Civil War personalities
(vi) The more recent “Little Round Top” figures of Union and Confederates.

Further back as “JAZZEUM” states we did the old glossies..And in between those and the more recent figures was another series of fighting Unionists and Confederates, our very first “matt-painted” American Civil War series.

So, we may not have been quite as prolific as Britains...Which are now American-owned and led but I reckon all together we’ve produced equal, if not more, than say First Legion. Of course, as I’ve learned, to say, I could be wrong..!

As for overall commitment to ACW...K&C is committed to many different areas in World History and while the American Civil War is indeed an interesting subject...it’s just one among many.

K&C being a British led company I can admit that I do have a personal preference for conflicts that involved British and Empire forces...Just as Britains under Richard Walker and now Ken Osen (both American) also favour American subjects.

Hope this helps and best wishes,

Andy

Much as I hate to disagree with "King & Country," perhaps I should have been clearer. By "commit," I mean it's never been a mainstay for you unlike Britains, where it's one of their flagship ranges.

You only produced a small amount of matte figures in your first go at it and then stopped producing for many years. After you reintroduced the line there was an initial burst and a couple of subsequent bursts but not much after that I'm afraid or recently. You haven't shown an inclination to make any figures lately and perhaps the sales don't justify them as Britains and FL seem to have taken over the field.

As far as you're making more Civil War figures than FL, that's probably quite true but then "King & Country" has been in existence for a wee longer, hasn't it? FL was only formed in 2008 and since that time they've made 90 different Civil War sets whereas since you re-started to make Civil War in 2007, you've made 102 different sets, not much of a difference. Funny how history gets in the way sometimes :rolleyes2:

As "King & Country" is fond of saying, happy collecting!

All true and well and good Andy. But dont forget: you have done truly outstanding work with the Custer/Real West series! And of course K&C has a substantial investment in the Alamo/KingsX operation. I think additional Confederate cavalry in more action poses or around specific battles like the Custer mounted indians would be something worthy of consideration. Obviously, just one man's opinion, but there it is!

My post above was probably a little more sarcastic then it should have been so apologies to Andy for making it so.

hi poppo, i do not know what all the fuss is about theses fl sets. Their faces are just to dark. If i want wargaming figures i will go buy 15-28mm figures. I think kc makes the best civil war figures in matte on the market. I even like the first run of them. They just come alive. Good job andy! And hopefully you will put a few artilery sets together so i can add them to the collection. In the meantime i will keep picking up some glossy trophy and tedtoy figures. Some yankee cavalry figures from the movie " the horse soldiers " would be nice too.

Greg,

First Legion is Russian style painting but probably half of what you would pay for an AeroArt figure. I think they look rather good, particularly Civil War, but it's not for everybody. They certainly don't go with K & C or vice versa but to each their own.
