Connoisseur Figures (1 Viewer)

I noticed that the Kolobob's e-bay store is kaput and they haven't updated their website in over a year (after not updating for a couple years before that). Anyone know what is going on with them?

Looks like it's all back now http://www.soldiers-russia.com/. His web page is pretty bush league for sure.

The Russian Vityaz website http://ruvit.ru/ looks a lot better although I don't think it gets updated any more frequently. By time the English version is finished I'm going to be able to read Russian.

Nevskaya Miniatura http://www.soldiers-neva.com/has an English version but it never gets updated either.

Why dont we have a category for connoisseur figures yet? Trying to read anything in this thread is getting to be hard as it takes forever for my computer to bring it up. Thomas Gunn sure got a category pretty fast. Is the reason they dont have a category yet because TF does not carry these kind of figures? Even Manes Marzano or what ever they are called has a category? Anyone else think it is time for these figures to have there own category?

I agree. Connoisseur category should be painted figures only. Not just a listing of new kits. Very confusing. Unless it is a kit that was sent out to a studio to have painted.

I agree we need a category for these specifically (I think I started this thread a long, long time ago with that in mind - haha). I wouldn't say it is because TF doesn't carry them as they have other categories for lines they don't carry but I believe we have shown the interest is there to discuss them.

A home of their own - pretty please?

:D

The web page is working but the ebay store is still down: http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewStoreV4&name=toysoldiersofkolobob Given that the ebay site was the only place to see anything new in the last three years, that doesn't appear to be a good sign. I would be cautious about ordering anything without some further explanation from Boris and co.

I really don't consider Andrea kits as connoisseur figures. To me connoisseur figures are sculpted and painted by one of the Russian figure studios. The Andrea kits are nice, but massed produced unpainted white metal kits.

The Turkish Ghazis Cavalryma is a nice soldier figure but that is one of the strangest looking horses I have every seen. I am not familiar with a breed that has coloring like that????

Yo Troopers, great thread this, and just some superb stunning painting, but if its taking up to 8 weeks to paint a model, you can see where the price comes in. Now Chas Stadden must be classed as the first Connoissers figures to be made IMHO. So I emailed some months back Thor & Nikki Johnson from Aeroart, and asked the question how do they think their models compare against Chas Stadden models of the 1970s-1980s Had a nice reply from Nikki, that with modern day techniques, that they had surpassed the Stadden models on Painting & face presentation. Now you cannot argue with the painting on their Knights and Ancient models, well they use Master painters, and they are stunning. But what I would argue is their sculpting is no better than the Chas Models especially on the horses, would like (spitfrnd) thoughts on this he is the real life horse expert. Also looking at the Russian sites you guys put up, still dont think their face presentation is as good as Chas Stadden. Nikki says theirs looks more lifelike, but I cannot see this. Nikki did go on to say that if they were looking to collect 19th & 20th Century Military models that they would go for Chas Stadden every time. So there is another one for you guys to kick around. Lets here your thoughts on this point guys.
Bernard.
MOUNT UP.

Can anyone provide a link to an Aeroart St Petersburg distributer in the UK?

Thanks
Harry

You can order directly from AeroArt, if you like. They don't list their dealers, but Tor and Nikki are great folks, and I'm sure if you e-mailed them they'd give you an answer.
