Constructive comments about K&C and other dealers (2 Viewers)

Rob, thanks mate, missed the 'philosophy sessions'.

My reasons for lurking are as above, lets not dwell.

Have loved to see the explosion of guys posting dioramas though. It was hard to try to do 30 Corps with 4 blokes, even UK Reb would have struggled at Gettysburg with just 4 blokes on one side! I for one have been pleased to see the Commonwealth troops, please buy them guys so they keep getting made!

Have to agree it great news kc making new Commonwealth figures{bravo}}

Your impeccable timing for kicking off this wonderful thread should be applauded Kevin....thanks from a Kiwi fan of your work.....Cheers{bravo}}

Please keep posting mate{sm4}

Very nice pic's Kevin and i love your collection, especially the HB Winter Jagdpanther.

I vote for higher prices...now is the time to really show the complaint department is effectively working!

very funny, are you a brit at heart?

12.30 SHARP IT IS MY FRIEND:wink2:

Rob

LOL, are you going to wear the helmet?

Very nice. That reminds me, I still need to get the piper.

Terry

Thanks, they are terrific sets imho

I have just managed to get the churchill AFV and the remaining commando sets the latter from Scott on here. very nice commando sets and would have liked to have seen a few more maybe wearing the woolen caps. great english sets for sure
Mitch

Mitch, if you ask nicely you may get your wish, a few blokes fancy airfix type figures from our discussions in the bar

Thanks Kevin for posting lots of your older pictures here. It sure is a pleasure to see all these different set ups.{sm0}

A very kind comment much appreciated

Great pics, hopefully andy does more commandos, i just got the last set i needed from sara, the beach master set.

thank you

Welcome back to the forum. The pics done using natural sunlight really make the scene look realistic. Cheers

thank you, I haven't actually been away, just quieter

As a newcomer to this part of the miniatures hobby, and with limited time, I found the forum to be huge - as I picked my way through all the sections, or I should say as I am slowly picking my way through, I came across the long thread on market garden...it is inspirational; just loved the way the dios flowed on through the narrative; it struck me that this was a good way to frame a cohesive approach to collecting and to getting the most enjoyment from the hobby. I am still reading through the posts on that thread and recognised the Lynx (Great photography by the way - and I must get a book) Though my preferred period has been for a very long time (you don't want to know how long) Napoleonic, I nonetheless appreciate the effort that goes into the creative pursuit of 'getting the best out of what you do' - thank you for the inspiration, and for the presentation of the hobby in all its glory. It is quite seductive to be confronted with the wide array of figures and different periods, and to focus on a single line for the sake of excellence requires some discipline - to actually decide on a project requires some discipline. Thank you again for showing your project(s) and providing that inspiration.

You are most kind, it is feedback like this that inspires me to publish what is for me just a bit of fun. I sincerely hope you have as much fun as I have. I would love to do Sudan, Crimea, naps etc etc but ..... so look to LT for zulus, Martyn for Sudan, UK Reb for ACW etc etc - more the merrier.

Kevin,
Always a pleasure when you share your excellent photography skills with us! I love how you make the photos pop.
Best regards,

thanks and I hope you are all well. Thanks for persevering with the forum.

Wow, I am tired after that. To go back to the point of the thread, the best advice ever given on here is 'buy what you like'.

Must comment again on your added photos. Amazing how much the "natural light" helps make the dio's look much more alive !

I think you spoke well here, this is the K&C thread but you mentioned other manufacturers too. BSP has amassed a huge WWII collection and Nick and I play with or stuff daily. We are now doing a lot of of critical comparing as far as size, detail proportion, cost etc.

I am really disheartened with most of the manufacturers for their inconsistancy in size and proportion.

Matt from First Legion severed ties with BSP so we have nothing to gain by supporting them. But lets be honest, it is pretty obvious they are doing the best job overall right now. But they dont fit with other manufacturers stuff, so that takes a little shine off their accomplishments. And their cost is a problem also.

I base my collecting on formulating scenes, and K&C's variety cant be beat. As far as the criteria I mentioned above. I was surprised to find dramatic size differences in K&C Vehicles and Soldiers over the say past 6 years. I like their vehicles no matter what size, I just use them in different venues.

Some of their soldiers have terribly sized guns, I cant deal with them, and K&C's price increase has left me buying more from other manufacturers as of late. TGM also severed ties with BSP, so I have nothing to gain by supporting them, is our choice for main stream figures now and Figarti, who we have supported for years is our choice for AFV's. We are very happy with our direction, but that is just us. Our opinion comes from making hundreds of dioramas, so I think we can speak with some sort of credibility.

And Collectors Showcase deserves a mention.

So I think we have all learned that this is all subjective and not worth discussing. We get many inquiries on our website from new comers and we privately guide them according to our intense study of the subject matter. Alex

Thanks, you guys do great stuff. I am not so good at making my point at the moment, this is hard work, but hope this is reasonably clear. I collect for dioramas to enjoy a sense of realism but not at the expense of practicality. I don't care who makes what if it fits (collect what you like).

I take exception to any personal attack on the forum, not necessary, but constructive feedback should be ok - it is HOW the message is given. If the feedback is given well, perhaps it should be considered?

I am not above being irritated, I once posted that someone had won a free trip in a coracle in Hudson Bay, that is about as close as I came to personal attack, but I respect other's views and likes/dislikes, I feel others should in their posts. Why not just let it go? This is a hobby, for fun. Real life is hard sometimes, if you can't lighten up and enjoy, look in the mirror - it may be you who has the problem, not the guy posting.

Back to the toys. All these have been posted before somewhere, some of my first. My wife helped a lot. I have improved thanks to diorama stuff getting better.

A mix of K&C with others, the snow was the hard stuff, this was some sort of fibrous material, not too good.

Same as one above

Kevin%20Elliott%2051.jpg

This was on a white sheet, my first winter JGM stuff and a mix of pieces - wraith loves my painting of the HGB half tracks, it is rubbish I know, -1 on scale to 10

Kevin%20Elliott%20%20103.jpg

I like the K&C bridge and other diorama stuff - the sp series can look a little 'larger than life' but they really come up well in photos, all of them - I put this down to Andy/Gordon's artistic eye for colour
