Can any of you guys tell me if the American Civil War plastics and metals from Conte are usable alongside those from Britains?

I get a sense from some of the posts that at some point Conte's metal figures got larger. Are any of their ACW metals eg the Iron Brigade compatible with their own plastics?

I want to build some small units based largely on the Conte plastics (with conversions) but also using Conte and Britains figures for command, characters and so on.

Any advice gratefully received.

Cuueassier..they do work together well. Once you start building your diorama you probably will be the only one who can tell who's who and what's what.
And even you will find it hard to tell with out carefull study.

Old Celt - no problem at all - thanks for your swift reply.
can anyone address the issue though of Conte figures getting bigger in more recent releases? At which point did they get bigger?

It was the Sons of the South series. I don't own /collect these, but there were some comparison shots posted on another forum a number of months ago, and they looked way to big (IMO) to mix happily with the previous releases.

The earlier stuff works well. the SOS series just look bigger than life. Height-wise they were closer than one initially thought. Check out the diodrama Civilwar diaries and check my pics. They are all mixed together. The painting styles differ as do mine though I try to match the Conte style more.

All the Conte ACW-except the Sons of the South sets- and the NEW Britains are a perfect match scale wise. I deliberately stated "new" as some of the older Britain's sets were absolutely dreadful especially a few of the command characters-I know I have most of them- bodies, headsize, facial expressions and stiff poses were all wrong in comparison to most of the Conte older sets. My only complaint with some, not all, of Conte ACW sets are the paint finish which are very much hit and miss-once again I have every metal set they produced- those that missed the mark I repainted myself. But the poses and facial expressions are excellent and when mixed with the vastly improved newer Britain's ACW sets you will not be able to tell the difference.

The enigma of the SoS sets has been discussed endlessly on this forum but for your info they are simply a "hybrid" and do not match in anyway with any other ACW manufacturers figures not even aligning with the K&C 60mm sets. They are just simply behemoths and far too big/fat (I doubt you would have found one single fat Reb in the whole of the Confederate Army from 1861-65 let alone 32 of them) and worse they are all carrying massive fire-arms. It's a shame about this "one-off size" because some of the figures poses- in particular the artillery casualties- are amazingly cast and deliciously painted but unfortunately they will truly dwarf the rest of your figures.

As Vamp has suggested take a look at our Civil War Diaries thread on Diodramas especially Pickett's Charge and you will see good examples of dozens of Conte mixed with dozens of Britain's. You will also see some SoS sets but for reasons as stated above purely as stand alone shots.
Hope the above helps and good luck with your set-ups
Reb
