Hi Guys,
Just been alerted to the new series by RC. Joe (The Lt) and Mike have mentioned it briefly under the Conte is back thread but I think it deserves it's own thread.
Looks like will be a very interesting series with Scots, Bengal Lancers, Russians, Sikhs, and spot the very well known face on the guy being lanced !
Another intersting part of British military history.
See Conte home page at www.conteco.com

Regards
Brett

Good for Conte for taking on a subject that many of us have wanted for so long. 2010 is the year to collect the Victorian Colonial Wars!

You Have Been In Afghanistan I Presume?

So begins the timeless story of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson....and so begins the tale of our new range. Now that we have successful Zulu War, Civil War Zouaves & Rome At War ranges well underway--with Medieval Highlanders, Religious, Wild West and Collector Club series gathering steam , we've decided it's time to unveil one of my pet projects that has been gnawing at me for years.

The North-West Frontier has always been a land of mystery, intrigue & conflict...with the conflict unfortunately continuing today. Nightly news reports speak of Kabul, Kandahar, the Khyber and Afridi, Wazi and Pathan Tribes just as Victorian newspapers did more than a century ago.

We've decided that it's high time that the Afghan Wars during the period of 1879 -1900 cry out to be recreated in military miniature form. While Gordon Highlanders are pictured above, keep a close eye on the site as we unveil Bengal Lancers, Afghans, Sikh Infantry, the Last Stand of the 66th Berkshires at Maiwand, Gurkhas, Russian Advisors,British Adventurers, and the even the Regimental Beastie delivering water...

Films such as Gunga Din, Lives of A Bengal Lancer, Man Who Would Be King, Kim, Charge of The Light Brigade, Wee Willie Winkie, Drums, Far Pavilions, King of the Khyber Rifles, etc. have all fueled the imagination for decades along with television efforts like 77th Bengal Lancers . At long last, I'm doing something to rectify this situation.

Look for our range to have buildings, terrain, a suspension bridge(gotta have one of those!), snake pits, Pathan watchtower, mountain guns, Thuggees(the original Thugs), Highlanders Charging, V.C. winners, the Queen's Own Corp of Guides defending the Residency at Kabul to the last , "Bobbie"-a highly decorated canine and more.

Peachy & Daniel will be made proud.

Randy, So true! ;) I was wondering what I was going to collect after I had started the JJD Sudan range

The spare shelf in my cabinet is spare no longer it would appear.

Thanks for the heads up on this.

Agree with you Jeff!
Just be warned.....if you view the Conte webpage at work....Make sure you have the sound turned off, or the sound of bagpipes will be floating in the air!

Being at work, I cannot comfortably open the Conte page from the sounds of it.

Is there any mention of preorder dates on any of these? They look super, super cool, and I love the write up that Randy has quoted for us here. I must say this a dream range for me, and one I have discussed at length in the past with at least one old friend.

Absolutely thrilled to see this on here this morning. :)

Hopefully we will see a set of the Royal Horse Artillery at Maiwand from Conte too!

These look spectacular. A must have series for the NWF collector, of which I am one. Can't wait for these. -- Al

After his death (in a traffic accident) Bobbie was stuffed and is currently on display in the regimental museum in Salisbury!

Bill Hocker would agree with Mr. Conte's statement below as seen in Bill's poster for his NWF line.

These are really, really, really nice...

with all the other categories of participants in this range...this could be a very large series...

either to collect in it's entirity...or to cherry pick...the selection might be enormous...

it looks like the series could be huge...

I'm really pleased with the variety in the faces of the Gordons...no two seem alike...great detail...

Mike

This range could very well include pack mules, elephants, horses and camels as seen in glossy versions of the NWF such as Trophy and Bill Hocker (below) These are all standard parts of doing the NWF up right which it sounds like Conte is hoping to do.

Northwest Frontier, now that is great news. Really looking forward to this line. We British Colonial Era fans are really getting spoiled with all the offerings. I never thought I'd see this many Victorian Wars being covered (in matte) at the same time.

The Bengal Lancer is awesome.
