Conte North West Frontier 1879 - 1900 Series (1 Viewer)

Northwest Frontier, now that is great news. Really looking forward to this line. We British Colonial Era fans are really getting spoiled with all the offerings. I never thought I'd see this many Victorian Wars being covered (in matte) at the same time.
The Bengal Lancer is awesome.

I know its great isn't it! But what to get is going to be the question? ;)

Maybe if we all worked together we could recreate an entire/exact replica of one of the battles. We each collect a part and then show up at your house Jeff and take over your first floor or basement:D:D:D:D

It's early morning in Jolly Ole England and the start of a new month so thought it appropriate to send along your NWF Calendar and for those state side to enjoy it with a cup of coffee. Got to be a nice way to kick off the new series and a way of keeping track of the announcement of the first of the sets......The Lt.

RC mentioned this battle and Regiment on his home page in cnnection with this series. I got the following from Wiki

"The 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot was an infantry regiment of the British Army, formed in 1758 and amalgamated into The Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Berkshire Regiment) in 1881.

It took part in the Battle of Maiwand in 1880. The bravery of the English soldiers astounded the Afghans. The British had almost lost the battle and only 11 men were left. An Afghani officer described their end. "These men charged from the shelter of a garden and died with their faces to the enemy, fighting to the death. So fierce was their charge, and so brave their actions, no Afghan dared to approach to cut them down. So, standing in the open, back to back, firing steadily, every shot counting, surrounded by thousands, these British soldiers died. It was not until the last man was shot down that the Afghans dared to advance on them. The behaviour of those last eleven was the wonder of all who saw it"

I think those the last 11 would be a good diorama.

Hi,
Has there been any hint at all when these are likely to be available?

At this stage no indication at all on when these guys will be available.

Some will have noted the Bengal Lancer set where he is about to lance the Osama lookalike in the back. Also on the base is another figure who has a lance in him. I have no idea when these are due to be produced but as a dealer my preference would be not to have the third figure in the set as it will make it more expensive. People will buy it for the Lancer and lookalike figure and don't need the other as part of the set. He can be a single. What do you guys think ?

Your paying for him one way or the other and in the long run I'm sure it'll be less expensive having him include in the set remember he'd hae to be boxed on his own which is an additional cost were as part of the set he's included in the one box. You'd also be paying an additional shipping cost. So for me it makes more sense keeping the set as is. Remember it's also an additional cost to you as a dealer........The Lt.

As a person who doesn't have unlimited income it would be better if he was taken off. With 2 figures,a horse and base this will be at the $100 level without the extra figure. In the long run it would cost more but it would spread the cost out.I might be able to afford the main set this month and get the add on at a later date. When I bought Conte's Troiani's series I would buy the main set and the add on later on.

You've a point Mark but you must remember The Trpoamis sets as pairs went for $249 $150+$99, $290 $165+$125 and $350 $180+$170 which I'm sure you'll agree is a major difference as to what this set will cost. Just making a point Mark.....Joe

This is another excellent book about the 2nd Afghan War for anybody who is looking to read up a bit on this subject now. :)

Your right there Joe but you know what,I make more money now but have less to spend on hobbies then back then.RC is gonna make the set the way he wants to anyway so it is really a moot point.

Agree Mark an I for one am glad he does. Have great day.....Joe

Are these metal figures the same poses as the resin figure set ?

Most of them are the same sculpts as the resin poses from the Scotland the Brave sets. The officer holdiing the flag looks to be a new pose. The original resin poses were great sculpts but look even better done in metal and painted up.

Joe,
I would have to disagee with your reasoning.
If the 3rd figure is a seperate item the collector will save money if he chooses not to buy it. With him as part of the set he will obviously increase the overall cost of the set. As mentioned if RC likes the set with 3 that is the way he will do it.
This is a set that I can see some buying for the "novelty" value even if they may not be getting any others in the series. It is getting a good laugh from some of my shop visitors who have served in Afghanistan. I would obviously like some of those type of buyers to go for it but the 3rd figure may affect their decision.
Regards
Brett
