One of Conte's earliest lines was the Spartacus line. The centerpiece was a mini-diorama of a couple of escaped slaves pulling a flaming log down a hill into some Romans who were trying to get out of the way. It was Conte's first attempt, I think, to go for the spectacular dramatic interactive set that his company is most highly regarded for. The Spartacus figures were probably the first metal figures I ever bought. I played with them for a while and eventually sold them all on eBay to somebody inAustralia...I think to Peter Jackson. (This was before he became famous...he just said he was film director from Australia.) Anyway, as time went on and I started doing photography for Conte, the one piece that was long sold out and no longer available was the burning log piece. At OTSN I found one for sale at a reasonable price and grabbed it. This is my first attempt to feature it in a little diorama.

i am a big king and country colollector,, but when it comes to romans , conte is the best,, the detail is excellent , but the way they look like they could move at any second amazes me ..i cant believe that a company still does such quality work in the ages of fast food burgers... EXCELLENT, my first two sets came today i got the roman command sets.. i am truly impressed... and i never post on these boards...
