Is this plane do-able in Poly stone ?
For those who can't afford the wood versions.
Something different i would buy one anyone else interested ?

The Ar 196s were also used in the English Channel for air-sea rescues.

In 1940 two Ar 196s helped in the capture the HMS Seal submarine. The submarine had been damaged by a mine off the coast of Norway. Two Ar 196s based in Aalborg, Denmark attacked the submarine and prevented it from submerging. The Kriegsmarine then captured the submarine.
Warships
The Admiral Graf Spee was the first warship supplied with the Ar 196.1 Eventually all capital ships and heavy cruisers had them.

The battleships Bismark and Tirpitz had six Arado Ar 196s each.2 The Gneisenau and Scharnhorst each had four. Pocket battleships and light cruisers had two Ar 196s.2 Heavy cruisers had three Ar 196s on board.
Land Based

The Ar 196 was also used from land bases in the North Sea, Baltic, English Channel, and the Bay of Biscay.
Many Uses

The Ar 196 was used for coastal patrolling, reconnaissance, anti-submarine, light bombing, and convoy escorting.
Used in Which Countries

Bulgaria, Finland, Germany, and Romania all used the Ar 196.2

The Arado Ar 196 was to be the Heinkel He 50 replacement as it was becoming obsolete. The Ar 196 was originally to be carrier based but since no carrier was built it did server aboard the larger ships in the German Navy. Kriegsmarine put out specifications in 1936 for a plane that could be catapulted from a carrier.3 Focke Wulf and Arado submitted designs.3 Focke Wulf's was a bi-plane. Four prototypes of the Arado Ar 196s were ordered.

The Arado Ar 196's skeleton was of steel tubing.3 The rear of the fuselage was fabric covered with the rest being metal.

Trials were being completed just as the war started.
Wings

The wings had fabric covering the control surfaces with the rest being metal.
Floats

Each float had seven water tight compartments holding fuel.

I would be interested but the struts could be a problem as you'd have a lot of weight on it.

This is a really neat plane and the connection with the Kriegsmarine capital ships makes it a great subject for me.

Wayne...

I am sure it could be. The struts would have to be metal to support weight if attempted in polystone and, they could then hold the weight of the aircraft. The floats then could be some other material to keep weight down. Think this will only stay as a ''wish list'' aircraft unless Figarti decide to do one with better suited mediums for large and intricate aircraft.

Sadly K&C could not keep the prices down to build stuff like this IMO and the KM range suffered because you need to have these and ships in it to expand the range. The figures, the usual at attention, marching, and those poses were pretty boring for me in a KM range, the good ones were submariners but, where was the Sub conning tower?

Will get around to making a sub conning tower in the new year but, just catching up changing the seehund and some figures at the moment

wrong hobby for large German e-boats or sub's but, I would buy an Arado if one were made.

Wayne,
It is a great looking plane but I agree with Brad could be technically difficult. There is a similar Japanese plane (Nakajima ?).
One of those projects where a producer says good luck to anybody who wants to try it.
Anybody know if been done in the diecast world ?

I have seen this model as well as a USN Kingfisher float plane in a large scale model 1/35..plastic kit and it may have been on Google images...sorry but I do not have a ref site.....I have a FW190 long nose and Dauntless SBD in 1/35 scale...they are both terrific aircraft but the 1/30 scale figures are too large a scale for the aircraft..cheers TomB

Conning tower.jpg Is this the Conning Tower you are planning to paint ?....if so...could you let me known the measurements....width..height and length......I have been thinking of doing this as a box dio...cheers TomB

I reckon if the STUKA could be done with the wing problems, this would be a walk in the park.

Mechanically they present different problems: horizontal vs vertical downward pressure.

The Arado would be very simple to make in resin. The body, wings and floats in resin and the undercarriage struts in white metal. Much better detail than polystone and much lighter. Trooper

I am going to base my own on the Andrea models version I have so, next time I am in the loft I will open the model and get the dimensions of the versions I have.

Thank you....the conning tower looks rather large....12/14 cm long ...I would guess....to save a lot of work I may reduce the tower to a single anti/ac gun......cannot decide whether to have the sub attacked by aircraft...rammed by a corvette or sinking a merchant ship by gunfire....have started work on the hull...regards TomB
