Creating the Battle of the Bulge.....Wacht Am Rhine (2 Viewers)

I have talked a bit - and done nothing - about putting some on a CD for a screensaver slide show or something but would anyone buy it?

Ummmm.....what's this BUY IT stuff...???:D:D:D

Cheers :)

Harry - I am not asking to see the full size, if I do something like this it stops being a hobby, with costs and time etc. I might for payment in toy soldiers;)

You don't ask Alex or some of the other talented people on here to repaint etc for nothing......

In answer to Jeffs earlier question about numbers of photos and quality, the light was good this morning, I had work to do - about two hours worth - but still took around 450 photos, 90+% good enough to post with or without a slight trim.

Some old and new.................

I wuzz pulling your leg with reference to the archetypical, careful-with-his-money, Scotsman. Harry Lauder's got a lot to answer for....!!!!
My new camera is taking +3Mb photo's. I can reduce them to around 2Mb by using HP Image Zone. This allows me to open them with Micosoft Photo Editor. I then make any "Crops" and other adjustments. After I "Despeckle" them, this results in a size that I can upload to Photobucket. I then edit them to fit a 15" screen and post them that way.
All a bit involved I know, but I now have a copy of Photoshop Elements 5.0 as recommended by Randy. So give me a couple of weeks of playing with it and let's see if I can come up with a better way of posting 3Mb photos without sacrificing quality.
Cheers

PS. Forgot to add how much I enjoyed your new photos. I'm planning on an American Bulge Dio next time I'm home, but after that, shall be concentrating on WWII Desert and SOHK dios/displays. For the first half of 2008 at any rate.
Hopefully I'll be posting in the Diorama Section again in a couple of weeks from now.
Cheers

St Vith and the Schnee Eifel

This was the Axis of Advance for the LXVI ArmeeKorps.

The upper jaw of the 18 Volksgrenadier Div attack consisted of Gren Rgt 294 to Auw on morning of December 16 1944.

IMG_7972red.jpg

The lower jaw consisted of the Gren Rgt 293 which struck at the boundary between the American 423 and 424 Regiments.

IMG_7987red2.jpg

When the attack broke, Colonel Cavender asked for his reserve, which was refused. He therefore took a scratch force to try to hold his Southern flank, fighting hand to hand in Bleialf.

The grenadiers were driven out by around 3pm.

Maj General Alan. W. Jones commanded the line and was ordered at 0130am on 17 December 1944 by VIII Corps - 'Troops will only be withdrawn from present position only if position becomes completely untenable', it went on to give the line to defend.

Some armour was to be sent in support from both 9 and 7 armoured divs. - hopefully one combat command each.

Fatefully, Jones decided, having considered asking to withdraw the 422 and 423 regiments back from their exposed position, to leave them where they were.

Kevin the pictures and storyline are riveting. If those pics. were in black and white, I would think I was looking at old WWII photos. Keep up the great work.:)

You know I just noticed something......this is from the KC website and I saw this dio at the Chicago show too. Where is the snow on the trees? There is snow all over the ground but the trees look like evergreens in summer! I am surprised Gordon missed this....tisk tisk tisk!

In Chicago, after the figures were all set up, Gordon sprinkled bags of powdered "snow" on the trees. The photo taken in Hong Kong didn't have the snow in the trees, because it wasn't sprinkled on until Chicago (probably for the sake of ease of transport without making a huge mess.

All through the night the battle continued on the Schnee Eifel.

The Divisional commander of Gren. Regt. 294, Oberst Hoffman-Schonborn, lead the forward battalion himself. Backed by some StuGs of Stu. Gesch. Brig. 244 they pushed elements of 32 US Cav Recon Sqn out of Schonberg and captured the bridge over the Our intact - with that area cleared, the top section of the pincer was ready to close.........................

Aha!
The diodrama master returns!
Great shots, do like the first one in particular. The 'Crossing the Road' set is superb.

Simon but you must admit it's well worth the wait for his return as you've noted in the selection of his set....The Lt.

Absolutely!
As Kevin says, that work stuff doesn't half get in the way of this hobby. Funds it, of course, but far too time consuming ;).

To the south, gren. regt. 293 was told to get on in no uncertain terms by LXVI Armeekorps

Rodrigo, thanks - it is actually an old shot - very early morning with bright light coming in - opened the curtain just a crack to create the effect. Was lucky it didn't have fuzzy camera shake - I don't know about you but especially early on I found a lot of good shots lost because of that?

Am glad you said that. I thought it was just me. I got a shed load of duff 'dim light' photos due to fuzzyness and couldn't understand why when the camera was perfectly still.

I still have much to learn Obi Wan.....
