The latest Crimean War releases from K&C are the Coastal 8 inch Cannon and crew which I received earlier this month. Excellent figures and concept but being a metal collector I felt a little disappointed when I realised the cannon was plastic, but still a nice model none the less.

Anyhow, the question was how best to display this set along with the British Infantry released last year?

JG Miniatures Boer War Blockhouse base makes for a fine little redoubt which the cannon and crew fit into a treat. The green grass slope and raised grass base sections are also JG products as are the rest of the scenic items and backdrop.

Here’s the end result, and I hope there are more Crimean War releases to come in the near future.

Thanks

Jeff

A colorful and interesting staging of the diorama material and troops ... looks real nice.

QUESTION: Is the whole piece plastic (cannon AND carriage) or just the gun?
--- Larry

That looks great Jeff, thanks for sharing, well done.

The gun and the carriage are plastic if memory serves me.

I am also very disappointed that the cannon is made of plastic, yet the cost is not reduced. I wonder what's the use for Andy to make so much $ profit margin?

Nice dio jeff, pity the gun is made of plastic . A phenomenon more and more common with all TS manufacturers and only noticable when the purchase is done and your money spent .
Me too I am a metal TS collector and I hate it when I take an item out of the box and notice it is made of plastic . I have returned items to my dealer(s) for a refund that were made of plastic or resin. You're also right about the price , one should see some difference at least !!!!!

I started collecting these type of figures because I am useless at painting so weather they're plastic, resin, metal or whatever is irrelevant to me, I just don't understand why it's an issue (apart from price), I mean one doesn't walk around holding them all day to feel how heavy they might be......^&confuse each to their own I suppose.

It's psychological. And I think you got it - it's also about price. Some of us older collectors equate plastic with cheap kids toys and high quality with metal figures. The weight of the metal gives a certain satisfaction even if the figure is rarely picked up.. But the future is resin. Some collectors will adapt and some won't.

Right Terry agreed, but are 1/35 plastic kits 'Cheap kids toys' I wonder, again as you say some will adapt others won't, still not a big issue to me.:)

Is the cannon plastic only or the whole piece - how about the base ?

Thanks everyone for your comments and ticking the like box! :salute::

Regarding the cannon - it's all plastic but still a very nice model and btw the stone base which comes with it is made of polystone (by the feel of it). I understand why it's made this way and I didn't want this thread to be a plastic v metal debate, but it would have been nice if it was advertised as such for the price.

Anyway, thanks again.

Yes it is a psychological thing. I agree with Wayne that one seldom picks it up and it doesn't matter. The look of the figure is more important than the feel . I wonder if K&C would have marketed the set and said "Metal figures" and a "plastic cannon" up front it would be a non issue?:rolleyes2:

Plastic is NOT cheap anymore. I am a plastic (and wood) ship modeler. Use to be that plastic was a "child's" kit while the real builder went the wood route. Today the plastic kits are 100's of dollars or more with the brass photo-etched parts.

There are not many "cheap" hobbies. Most hobbies have a small following compared to populations therefor for manufacturers and distributors to be able to make a profit and have money to put into product development have to charge higher prices than the products are really worth. There are no "cheap" hobbies.IMO.

Nice addition to your collection Jeff. Very well displayed too.
