The Banshee was a Confederate Blockade runner. As such she was not allowed any guns. She was originally a three masted wooden ship. I am going to do a bit of research to make a reasonable facsimile. But we will have guns.
Oh yes we will have guns.:p

Starting with another Ross 15 dollar special.

This is what we are starting with. Then we will strip her of he fittings in dry dock.

Painted it too. For my next trick I will cut the hull in half! Yes, half! My I have a volunteer from the audience please?

I am not even going to tell you what this looks like;) In regards the Banshee I am stuck. I cut the hull in half only to find out the hull was hollow. Then decideing I could deal with that the next question was what did the side wheels look like from the overhead view? What did the deck look like behind the wheels? There is no Banshee, but, to honor Marse Lee I thought I would use the CSS Robert E Lee as a prototype. Same problem , Lots of profiles but no overhead view.:eek:

I built a blockade runner model as a teen. It is long since gone but I remember some details of the areas you are asking about. Of course the side paddlewheels have shrouds that run roughly half way between the axles and the waterline. between the wheels was a low cabin. atop the cabin was a gangway with railings that ran from gunwhale to gunwhale or shroud to shroud. The gangway did not sit atop the wheel shrouds but stopped at them at a heighth that a man could see over the shrouds to the port or starboard sides. I hope you find this little tidbit on info helpful. I will also check some reference material I have and see what I can find.

I appreciate any help you can give me on this project. I would like to see it to completion.

This pic wont help much but just to show the difference in styles I will post it. This the C.S.S. A.D. Vance after it was captured in 1864in North Carolina waters and renamed the u.S.S. Frolic.

Some decent pics coming very shortly.

This is the Confederate Blockade runner C.S.S. Ella & Annie note the small structure behind the paddlewheel shroud.

This photo is of the same vessel again after it's capture and it was renamed the U.S.S Malvern. The Admiral is standing by that small structure.

OOOPs. Lets try this again. Admiral Porter is standing by that locker structure or what ever it is.

This picture is just to the right of the One with Porter showing additional structures. These vessels were bought in Ireland, Scotland, France stc. and no two were exactly alike. You should feel free to take some creative liscence here which, after seeing your excellent work I'm sure you will. I got these four pics from the U.S. Naval History Center online. Looking forward to seeing the old "Banshee" slice the Anaconda into several pcs.

Just one quick note of interest, The Malvern became the Flagship of Porter's blockading squadron. Also most blockade runners were painted white or light gray so they would blend in with fog.
