Not sure if I heard correctly, so just ignore this post if I didn't, but I think if King and Country are going to be making a line of soldiers that no other company has, then I think it will be the Battle of Culloden:D:eek::cool::confused::D;):confused::D

Re: Culloden:D

Sorry, but must point out respectfully, that Tradition has a section in its catalog that covers the Jacobite Rebellion and Culloden.

In fact, I think Jeff may have some of those figures posted somewhere here in Treefrog.

Prost!

So does Tommy Atkins.

I think there is some confusion about the new series...is it one that has never been done before by anyone or just never been done in Matte ? If so then this would fit as those figures are gloss.

Well, it is not a bad guess as it is one of the two ranges that Andy and I talked about developing back in the late 90s. We both thought it would be a good idea at the time, but we seemed to be the only ones.

I have always been a big fan of the "45"Jacobites.

Hmmmmm ,1 toy soldier style set,A single figure from same,& 3 (very nice) model soldiers-that's a "section" is it?Although I quite like the model soldiers,I do not think that this deserves "covers":p.Ah but but ne'er mind me,I'm likely miffed that not only did you neglect Tommy Atkins, but said "pretty nice"rather than ABSOLUTELY STUNNING :D.Additionally worth noting,J.S. Dietz produced (lamentably briefly) a Jacobite line,Two Worlds Miniatures likewise and Cherilea sold plastic Highland Clansman & Royal Regt. Grenadiers long long ago.The Cherilea figures (when found with any paint at all) appear matte, though this could be the "ravages of time".Plastic Underground figures most often appear to be matte as well, but I've not seen them other than photos. There are likely other Manufacturers that have as yet escaped my notice.:confused:Slainte,ob

Here is A shot of the Jacobites Jeff was good enough to do for me

Is there a range that covers the English Civil War?

I'm pretty sure that Tradition also has ECW figures in their toy soldier catalog, I think as painted figures and as castings.

They also had a set from the Thirty Years War, depicting the Meistertrunk von Rothenburg, in which the mayor of the town of Rothenburg downed a gallon of wine in one gulp, to save the city from Tilly's army. The soldiers in the set would pass for soldiers from either side in the English Civil War, too.

Prost!

Brad,
what is the set number from Tradition for the Von Rothenburg?

Tom

Hi, Tom, I'll check it for you when I get home (be home around 17:30 or so), it's in the hardcopy catalog I have.

OK, the set shows GS1 in Tradition's catalog, in the toy soldier range ("Toy style model soldiers for collectors"). It consisted of 8 figures, including Tilly, the Bürgermeister, and six soldiers.

Of the soldiers, 2 wore lobster helmets and cuirasses over buff coats; 3 are musketeers, one with a helmet (a casquet, I think it was called) one with a cocked hat with plume, and the third with a plain hat; and the last looks like an officer, with a cuirass over a buff coat, broad-brimmed hat with plume, and a Pallasch or long, straight sword.

I'm not sure if Tradition still makes this set, though, I think I saw elsewhere that it was discontinued. Recently, though, they've revived some sets that show as discontinued in this catalog. For example, the Steadfast Toy Soldier set that Jeff just painted in another thread, was discontinued when this was printed. So were the Victorian Life figures; I think they've recently been re-released.

I page through the catalog, I also see 3 figures specifically from the English Civil War:

No. 511, Trooper of Parliamentary Horse
No. 510, Officer of Royalist Horse
No. 512, Musketeer of Trained Bands.

Figure 512 looks identical to one of the figures from the Meistertrunk set, BTW.

I haven't gone over to Tradition's website yet, to look for any of these, but it's worth a look.

Prost!
Brad
