Hi all, trying to put some pieces together, did I understand that the next sets of D-day are going to be more Brits and Canadians??? of some sort?? or was this gonna be part of a bigger release next month?? and if that is the case does this mean no American D-day releases for this year?? ...confused and worried...Sammy

Sammy,i understand there will be another release of Brits/Canadians in July.I'm not sure if there will be more US D day releases on top of this as well,Andy did visit the Big Red 1 last year so this would be understandable.

Sammy,
Rob pretty much summed it up; British in June, and perhaps more British and/or Canadiens in July, no word on US sets as of yet, I don't want to presume anything, but that is how I read the last dispatches.

Besides, you need British/Canadian forces to really do that huge diorama justice; Americans slugging it out with the Germans in the hedgerows and farms and the British and Canadiens hammering away near Caen.

Think of it, the diorama to end all dioramas.........;)

Sounds good George.I don't suppose you will be doing 'Buy one LCA get two free' will you?:eek::D;)

There have been a lot of U.S. D-Day retirements in bits and pieces for awhile. To me this indicates that we'll likely see some U.S. reinforcements in the not too distant future. I especially like those U.S. para sets. I was worried for a long while when I saw the entire Commonwealth D-Day series retired, so you can imagine how excited I am now that we're seeing their comeback. I wouldn't be surprised to see some opposition and perhaps installations? As a WWII enthusiast this time of year is always exciting whatever comes down the pipe.

Yes i agree. All the Brits and American beach sets have gone over the last year or so,so this reinforcement has been coming for some while now.I remember Andy telling me a couple of years back that he felt he'd done enough US Paras for a while and wanted a break from them.I also really look forward to June and July and the D Day releases,I think these two months could be a highlight for me this year.:)

There is a series of Normandy guide books i have called 'Battlezone Normandy'.There are some great pics amongst these books and some of them are giving me food for thought on future dio's.What I like about these forthcoming figures is that whilst they look cool hitting the beach from the LCA they will also look good fighting in the villages and Bocage of Normandy.

I am so glad I bought a couple of those Conte crafts when they were available. I love the Brits and look forward to seeing some more GI's. Now imagine a diorama with two beach heads (one US & one UK) separated by rocky terrain. That would be cool!

Were LVT's used at Normandy at all and if so, which one's? I know they were used later inland crossing European rivers ino Germany. I would just love to use some of my Figarti LVT's and repaint them if I must.

About 500 LVTs were in Europe at D-Day, mostly in Italy. LVTs had been used in the North Africa Landings, Straights of Messina and Po River in Italy. Their advantage was they could go right up on the beach and had rear doors for the troops unlike most landing craft which had to stop at the surf line, front opening doors and troops wading through the water.

AMPHIBIOUS OPERATIONS by Barry Graham mentions an LVT II on Utah Beach with the 4th Infantry Division. As the LVTs came from the US Marines, they were likely used to land only American troops at Normandy on D-Day

The one Figarti LVT with the verticle yellow stripe probably would not need repainting.

I am going to use the K&C LVT from Iwo Jima.

Rob,

If I did it for anyone, it would be for you.....;); then I'd get terminated by K & C for discounting and you'd have to explain to my Mrs why we were moving out of our condo and into the tool shed round back......

Several years ago (around the time K & C launched their D-Day British Commandos, the beach master set specifically), Matt from The Hobby Bunker came out with a superb beach diorama made from foam that was about feet long and about 2 feet wide with a beach, a line of German trenches and pillboxes then a large embankment of concrete with an access road across the top of it, it looked very much like the Sword beach area.

It was just superb, not sure if Matt has any kicking around, but it would make one awesome display for the upcoming releases. One of my customers bought three of them and had me custom paint them, I had a few of them myself back in the day..............

Terry, fyi the FOV Jeep fits nicely in the K & C LVT.

I do not have any FOV pieces, but even so, the K&C LTV looks barely large enough. Besides, Buffalos were never used to carry jeeps as you can see in this photo. I probably will just put July's Canadian troops in it. They used Buffalos for river crossings. (see 2nd photo) I do not have the room or money for a D-Day landing display and am in agony over whether to buy the K&C LCA! It is an outstanding piece.

PW, I'm not sure what you are getting at but suffice to say I do have a FOV Jeep which does fit in my K & C LVT with the ramp closed, and I have also seen plenty of photos of LVT-4 (Buffalos) with Jeeps in them.

None of my K & C Jeeps fit inside my K & C LVT, mainly due to the extra equipment hanging off them, but they look good displayed driving off the open ramp.

Sorry Oz, tried to make a joke. Until you mentioned it, I did not think the Buffalos could carry a jeep as is shown in the photo..

That's cool Terry, sad to say with forums most jokes seem to get lost in translation somehow :) Anyhow, my fav K & C Jeep is DD075 which I intend to buy for a Western Front style diorama - there's so many K & C models on my "too buy list" :D.
