Dambusters re-make / update (1 Viewer)

The "name" has always been hateful, racist and demeaning to those it referred to. The difference is that it used to be acceptable to be hateful, racist and demean others. Some things change for the better...............

The Squadron's story is what it is, not what someone would prefer that is was. At least that is my understanding of history.;) I am find to drop it without the unnecessary derogatory references to another party's opinion.;)

Your opinion is what it is and you are entitled to it but to call the editing of a word that is considered hateful and racist now PC is what I dont understand. Perhaps you can explain it.
Well yes I can do that. The word is hateful and racist if used in context as originally intended. To edit the word as used 60+ years ago as the name of a Squadron mascott does nothing to make the original use less hateful or racist or comfort those or their relatives who were slurred in that fashion and is I think properly described as a PC revision of history; hence my original note that those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it observation. History is replete with horrible events that one would hope are not repeated but that does not mean they did not happen or that pretending they did not by ignoring them is helpful. Racism happened and continues to happen and I humbly suggest it is better to confront that ugly fact and those like it and deal with them than to try and sweep them under the rug. The fact that I do not agree with an idea or a practice or that I may find it offensive does not mean that I think it is necessary or healthy to pretend it does not or never did exist.

Wonderful post that gets right to the heart of the matter. To pretend or ignore that racism doesn't exist is unhealthy. Only by confronting it will racism (and cyber-bulltying) be finally eradicated). I ought to know, cos I've been subjected to both.

First of all if a post has been edited or deleted unless it is your post there is no point in trying to guess why it was edited or deleted. This just derails the actual discussion in progress and serves to undermine the moderators who obviously saw and dealt with an issue.

Secondly the rules of this forum prohibit profanity and racial slurs. Because a racial slur is not welcome on this forum does not mean anyone is saying the usage of that term never happened or that the fact that it was/is is being ignored. What it does mean is that regardless of what happens outside this forum, on *this* forum we are not going to perpetuate it.

Thirdly if you have an issue with the way something was moderated, PM the mod and let them know what you think rather than using a discussion thread and complaining to whoever may pass by. That's neither productive nor does it add anything to the discussion.

You are of course entitled to your opinion.

It is not an opinion, it's a fact. The world (or most of us at least) has moved on from those times when people were judged by the color of their skin or what country they are from.

Prejudice is not innate in humans it is LEARNED - from books, the media and other people. Yes, I can see the viewpoint for those that believe the word would somehow increase the historical accuracy of the movie, but why endorse past prejudice with use of a word that is no longer acceptable in our society.
