Hi All,

Just saw this terrific old movie starring Rod Taylor, Yvette Mimieux, Jim Brown and Kenneth More about Mercenaries in Congo. A train ride thru rebel territory into a diamond mine to rescue the folks and some diamonds. Some greatfight scenes and a wonderful scenic train journey. What memories!

The scene when the train rolls back into the town and the man shoots his wife so that she isn't taken alive is quite horrific.

I remember an interview with Rod Taylor during which he was asked about his leading ladies. He said he loved every one of them, but Maggie Smith most of all.

Rod Taylor starred in one of my favorite war movies, "Bataan". Saw it as a kid and have always liked it. Had a great cast, including a young Desi Arnaz. -- Al

Two great movies.{bravo}} Haven't seen "The Wild Geese" in years. For some reason it just doesn't get any play time on US TV. -- Al

Yvette Mimieux...best Eloi girl ever! In Dark of the Sun the German, Henlein was done by Paul Frees from all those Christmas cartoons.

Excuse me Paul Frees (Burgomiester Miesterburger) dubbed in Henlein's voice.

Judas Priest Al {eek3} Was this a senile moment (I do frequently have them myself) as this is not like you at all to mix Rod & Bob up.

But you are correct with the young Desi Arnaz and also a very young Robert Walker both appeared in this fine war movie. And if I remember correctly one Barry Nelson which is always a good quiz question as he was the very first actor to portray James Bond. In I think a US TV series called Climax back in the early 50s which was a version of Casino Royale with Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre.

Had too much sugar that day, Bob. Robert Walker was also in another of my favorite war movies, "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo". "Bataan" was full of great actors such as Lloyd Nolan (was in about every WW2 film made in the 40's, including another great film, "Guadalcanal Diary"), and Thomas Mitchell of "Gone With the Wind" and "Stagecoach" fame. Got to lay off the sugar... -- Al
