Having seen the discussion around the latest Bulge casualty figure without his footwear I was wondering how many of you guys like the dead/wounded figs and how many will not collect them?. I myself am firmly in the Yes camp, I think they are a realistic addition to any range and bring a sort of 'Modelling reality' as it were to any scene. One set I would love to see remade is the D Day casualty set, its one thing missing from my beach scene about now.So guys yes or no for you?

Rob

I would buy them as long as they don't smell or have spilling guts:eek::eek::eek:

Even though I must confess the first few minutes of the SPR beach scene are something I am only interested in seeing once every decade, I am for them. It is hard to imagine an effective or realistic battle diorama without them.

I agree, for me they are essential., they give that extra reality to a scene. Hard to imagine an Omaha scene without them. One of the best sets from K&C's D Day GI's is the wounded with medic, propped against a beach obstacle it really looks good.

I wonder if anyone will be making dead animals that are so commonly seen in photos

Good point, dead Horses would be great for a Falaise Pocket scene.

I think casualty figures can make a scene more realistic and the use of them is ok. They are a reminder of how grim and horrible war really is.

I think any scene needs to have some dead or wounded figures to make it complete.

As a German dealer I can tell you, that most of the collectors do not purchase dead or wounded figures. I asked a lot of them: why ?
Most of my customers prefer a more clean than realistic display. More parade than cruel reality...

Yes I understand how some people can find these figures hard to look at,but for me having had these figures in the plastic figures I played with as a kid, they seem to be no different to other figures.Just another part of collecting really.

Hope to see you in London Hadrian

I have very few dead figures or even wounded ones and they pretty much came as part of a set as with an AFV. I'm not really interested in dead figures, even in scenarios. I certainly wouldn't buy them on their own.

I'm for them. The collectors who like parade formations I can understand why they don't but the diorama guys like their set ups as real as possible.

I find it ironic that we all cry for detail and realism down to the last rivet and, want diorama's looking like the real picture and then not expect figures toileting themselves or wounded or dead its all part and parcel of the area we collect. I don't see any critique of the beheaded crusade figures sets and would hope that sets of dead casualties are added to the range.

If it seems to delicate for some then don't buy them or hopefully don't comment so as not to stop the releases for those that want them. Dead cows horses and other animals were a common theme of all battlefields especially Normandy and, should be portrayed IMO. Sanitised battle fields are very nice but for many they want more reality and these type of sets offer that though, as with the civillians its not for everyone as it conjours up images and views they see as unpalatable.

Its a great idea for a thread and I am definately in the ''yes'' camp and have recently bought silicone mould to make arms legs and half bodies etc for battle scenes

I have pleaded a case for more of them in the past...when I set up some pictures...I feel they are a necessity...it just seems more realistic to have a couple of wounded or dead in the ranks...the bigger the diorama...the more I want...all those pointed guns must have hit someone...

I remember a thread...where a Frogger really slammed the K&C set..."Gruesome Trophy Set"...which I think was a "spin off" of an earlier Trophy release...maybe the Afgan series I was told...I can't find a picture...If someone else can...I would like to see it...

he complained about how gory it was and credited the beheadings to a passed down custom from the Christians as ordered by the church...it was an interesting thread...I can't find it but he was really upset with this set...

mike...

Thats the set I was mentioning and its what happened have not seen the thread you mention but, did see the response to the pictures of the civillian sets recently!!!! its just what happens beheadings, scalpings etc I don't even think we are diverting from the Hobby as K&C has brought realism of conflict into miniatures IMO.

As I am constantly being reminded on here ''don't buy if you don't like'' or other such trivia.

This is the set I was referring to...you can see him holding the severed head...

Dear Rob:

I agree 100% relative to your comments noted above. If you are displaying military sets on a book shelve and there is no idea of trying to show a battle scene I can see that you may not want to show casualty figures. I too would like to see some casualty sets for new D-Day sets by K&C. They had some in the past, but now these older K&C sets cost too much on eBay!

I love them, need them to remind us of what happened to some of the men we have that are not dead or wounded fought!:)

Makes a battle look really intense!:)

Interesting thread and thanks for posting it.

I do believe "dead" or "wounded" figures are necessary to bring out the realism in a diorama. I have some in my Gettysburg diorama. How can you not when there were 55 thousand casualties in that battle! However, I only purchase and display casualty figures that are shown to honor them.

One more thing that I would like to add is maybe, casualty figures should be placed into a special section of a retailer's website, similar to what Treefrog has done with K&C's LAH series. Some of these figures can be very gruesome to younger collectors which could turn them off collecting or prevent the parents of these interested kids to encourage them in this hobby.
