Best regards from Spain to all collectors,Del Prado has closed the business for the crisis?:confused:

Hi, spanishsoldier, DelPrado USA's website has no such info, have you seen a report someplace in the European media that DelPrado was closing?

Prost!
Brad

i tired to acesss the spanish site that sold the figures worldwide but it seems to have disappeared!

I read in a Spanish newspaper on economics that the company was on the verge of bankruptcy.

Someone should contact Michigan Toy Soldier...they were the US distributor, so I assume they'd know the facts.

Facts are always good :cool:

Good idea, Herr Pfarrer, I just shot an email off to MTSC's contact account, we'll see what kind of response we get.

It would be a shame if they were to close, but on the other hand, the history of toy soldier makers has been one more of companies coming and going more frequently than staying, regardless of current economic conditions. For Britains and Mignot, look at how many smaller makers came and went. Also, the rise and fall of a company doesn't mean necessarily that we won't see the figures again, as sculptors and painters pick up and resume elsewhere. DelPrado might go under as the distributor, but as long as the factories in China that actually make the figures are open, we could see them made available again at some time in the future.

Nur Mut haben, courage, gentlemen!

Anyway, we'll what Michigan Toy Soldier might have to say.

Prost!
Brad

The company Oryon collection in Italy, also closed the business by the current global economic crisis, I was interested in their future numbers of the Sheridan's cavalry and epic western, with Custer:eek:

I saw that one coming. Their collection of Romans is being released in Brazil by Planeta. Planeta is a competitor.

It does appear that either they are in trouble or have gone bust, i have had no figures for at least 2months and my credit card hasn't been charged either,have tried ringing the Uk contact number, 3 times today ,no answer:(
I hope that somebody picks up the toy soldier side of the business,maybe then i can complete the Civil war series:confused:
Regards Steve

And actually, I've never received a response to my email to Michigan Toy Soldier.

The Shadow knows.........They will begin again in a bit supposedly, but they did take a hiatus.

Tom

To back up what Tom said, the company has been sold to a new owner and production will begin again very soon, my supplier has told me to expect a restock and new codes in about two or three weeks, so fear not Del Prado fans (but thanks for that mad dash to the tables last week where 90% of my stock got cleaned out to one and all at the Annandale show).............

I am not sure about what the company will be called or how they will handle previous customers, I buy wholesale, I am not a collector of the figures.............

Hello to those interested in Del Prado figures,

I apologize for not responding to these posts sooner but I was awaiting news from del Prado on their situation. The company filed for Chapter 11 in Spain. It has now been bought by another publishing company. Below is the press release that has been issued in regards to this matter.
Best regards,
Rick Berry

PRESS RELEASE 11june2009

Del Prado group was just bought by a joint effort between one of the largest continuity collectible companies in the world (Edition Cobra of France) and one of the fastest growing direct marketing collectible companies in the world, Otium Intellegens of Spain.

The terms of the deal are not being disclosed yet; however both companies will retain Del Prado's trade marks and most of the their collections, quite notably all the militaria catalog.

Otium intellegens will keep business as usual in the US, France, Germany, Spain and UK, while Cobra will continue the current collection in basically the rest of the world.

All current soldier collections will be completed according to the original Del Prado plan and sequence: Production of both new and existing figure is being resumed on June 11th. Exclusive collaboration with Osprey will continue.

US new releases plan is not yet finalized; OI expect to formalize this by the end of June. However, the followings are guaranteed:
- Old Northwest Trading/MichToy will continue to be the exclusive US distributor for Del Prado soldiers.
- At least 15-20 new release of Napoleonic Cavalry, Napoleonic Soldiers, Medieval Soldiers and XX Century Soldiers by the end of 2009;
- At least 25-30 new releases of American Civil War, Samurais and Far West collection during the next 8 months;
- US launch of new series ROME AND HER ENEMIES on September 1st, 2009, with 15 new figures by the end of the year;
- New catalog and retail packaging to be launched by year end.

Additionally, OI in partnership with Old Northwest/MichToy plans to develop and launch in US and Europe (US being the chosen launch country from now on) at least two new militaria series 2010 and two in 2011.

OI will continue the development of the Del Prado trade marks, keeping true to its legacy of unbeatable Price/Quality ratio, passion for collection, and historical in-depth.

Anyone got any further news of Otium? Alternatively an address or Email facility?
