Hi,
First I'd like to say that Dave's collection and fantastic pics are an inspiration for any collector. Then I'd like to say that these theme is absolutely wonderful, and for me it's a little hard because I am also at the moment collecting Napoleonics and WWII aircraft, 1/72 scale. Fortunately I am not obssessed with getting everything ( that's a lie, of course I am:D ), and I go through spurts ( a Napoleonic spurt, then an Aviation spurt, then an India spurt, well, sort of:eek: ).
Besides Britains ( will they ever have such fantastic Durbar offer ), I have seen great ranges from Tradition, Marlborough ( thanks for the enlightening pics, Dave ), Fusilier, Beau Geste and the supreme wonder, BILL HOCKER.
Marlborough have a very extensive range, at least on their website, and I especially like their Indian Bazaar idea, civilian figures that are a joy to watch, they even make me laugh, and these civilians complement the military figures. That said, my very small collection is just composed of Britains sets, I have just made a Tradition order.
So here goes:

http://stores.ebay.com/Clash-of-Arms_INDIA-THE-RAJ_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ7439526QQftidZ2QQtZkm- CLASH OF ARMS, these figures do look very nice, I am afraid they don't have the market value of others, but have you bought from them?

What do you make... of these makes? On Marlborough they look very good, but I prefer Britains more precise and realistic style of painting ( that's how it looks ), although they look like blending well. But if I lived in America I would probably give my priority to BILL HOCKER, expensive, but WONDER written all over it. Sometimes it 's best less but better:cool: ...

Durbar fans and specialists, talk to me and others, there is a lot to be said on this matter I guess...

Hi Dave,
Where can I find this Shamus Wade? Does he have to do with Blenheim/Nostalgia? His figures look great on your pics.

Also, take a look at this: http://www.traditionoflondon.com/, the Elephant Batteries under the 54mm toy soldiers, British Army section. That's what I call stunning. Expensive but once again, sometimes less might be better...

I used to paint my own castings years ago. I have shown these before but its a cheaper option than buying painted sets.

Hi Jeff,
I see no difference between your painting and the painted sets. It really is terrific. Pro like. Wish I had a small part of your talent or the time. Thanks for some great pics. Do you sell on e-bay or something? The standard looks absolutely excellent. Congrats.

Regards,
Paulo

Some kind of an earthquake under that elephant:D .
And another. Oops, a little out of thread, ze luftwaffe,! du bist ein idioten Paulus!:D

Paulo,

Thanks for your kind comments about my painting. I used to sell them through a friends shop, but haven't painted any for a long time now.

The Tradition elephants are made from resin and the Fusilier ones are metal. What are the Britains ones made from?

Btw, I like the planes.
Regards

Jeff

I am missing something . Where oh where did those castings of the elephants come from?? The one with the Governor General? Beautiful work. Would love to know more about the castings.

KV.

The elephants that I posted pics of are either Tradition of London or Fusilier Miniatures (see Viriato's links). Castings are available from both manufacturers, but not sure if they are available as such in the USA?

The Governor General elephant is I belive is a Britains one and therefore not available as castings, but then as it was not mine I could be wrong.

Hi Guys,

First and foremost my thanks to you all for the compliments on my collection I enjoy it and am always glad to share the pictures with the forum so you can enjoy it too. I also have a lot of other eras but I am mainly a British Raj fan so its is the "Jewel" of my empire!

So glad to see those painted Castings of the Elephant Battery from aujj65very well done and they look a lot like the Traditions sets I have seen and they are very cool! They are available over here but I think your best bet is to hit up MKL Models or Tradition in the UK and purchase them there. I have been toying around with getting back into painting and such but have decided to wait mainly due to space constraints. There were a lot of questions so I'll try and answer them.

The Britains Elephant pictured is the Duke and the Duchess of Connaught on the State Elephant it came out in 1998 and is set number 8956. It is resin. The Britains Elephants I have on display are all resin with detachable howdahs in most cases and arent very heavy. The Marlborough one I have is not resin and I suspect its lead or an alloy since it is quite heavy.

There seem to be a number of the Britains Elephants making it out to the secondary market recently so if you are able you should grab one up, They are all quite nice.

The question on Shamus Wade is difficult for me to answer since I am not an expert on his sets but I am told he has an association with the Marlborough/Blenheim Line or rather with the beginnings of the line but I am not totally sure of this information so please let me do some more research or maybe someone on the forum will be able to supply the answer. I will say that they are wonderfully painted and sculpted and fit very well with the Marlborough and Britains I have on display.

The offerings from W Hocker are just fantastic and are worth every cent. They are however from the earlier Durbar of 1877 so there are slight differences in uniforms and equipment but not enough to keep me from getting some.

I also love the civilians and spectators that are offered by Marlborough they go a long way to completeing the display because why have a parade if no one is watching. I only have a few but will be getting some more eventually.

I hope this helps answer some of the questions. Keep them coming as I do enjoy discussing the Durbar.

All the best

Dave

Hi Guys,

I found a little more information on Shamus Wade and it seems there maybe more out there so I will keep working on it. This should help clear up some of the questions, the Welsh firm of Blenheim also produced for Shamus Wade of Nostalgia Figures of West London a range of figures from some of the more exotic armies of the world. I am still sifting through information so I will let you all know what I dig up.

Dave,

As usual, you provide us with very interesting information. I greatly appreciate your willingness to do research and to share it with us. It makes us all better informed collectors. Thanks a million!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Pat,
I make your words my words ( with an appropriate bow, of course ). Many thanks Dave. I'll try and research too, I guess what you've found comes from John Tunstill's site Soldier's Soldiers, right?

Hi Pat and VIRIATO,

I am only glad to be of help on this. Yes I found that snipet in John Tunstils site. He has a lot of information on that site that would probably be helpful if you want to get to know the who's who of early Toy Soldier manufacturing. But I have also seen a lot of information in other places so its going to take a while to sift through it all. I have yet to find a site for Nostalgia but I will keep looking. It would be great if there was a place out there like wikipedia that was only about toy soldiers but I guess thats a bit too much to ask.

Have a great day.

Dave

I just bought the State Elephant of Hyderabad! Great price hope the shipping doesn't kill me;) Thank you Viriato!:) :) :)
