Delhi Durbar/Indian Army various makes (2 Viewers)

I just bought the State Elephant of Hyderabad! Great price hope the shipping doesn't kill me;) Thank you Viriato!:) :) :)

K-V,

Congratulations on your purchase! It is a fine set. I bought one a few weeks ago and I am really proud of it. I assume, from your comment regarding shipping, that you purchased it from a dealer in the UK? I did the same and the shipping turned out to be slightly more reasonable than I expected.

Enjoy the State Elephant. It is a great addition to any Durbar collection!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I thought you lived across the pond, Pat?

I thought you lived across the pond, Pat?

Hi K-V,

Nope! I live in the good ol' USA. Specifically, I live in rural Kansas. I am curious how you happened to conclude I lived across the pond. Did something specifically lead you to that conclusion?

Does my memory serve me correctly that you live in Santa Clara, California?

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

My elephant has arrived! Here it is included with my very modest durbar collection

Hi Ron,

So glad to see some one else has the Durbar bug too. There are some good elephants listed right now so you might consider another. But I dont want to cut into your K&C Napoleonics habit.;)

Could you please tell me who did the sets of dismounted soldiers along the flanks of your display. Are they Clash or Arms or someone else?

Thanks for posting the pictures!

All the best

Dave

KV

Everyone looks so happy :D

Hi K-V,

Your Durbar display may be small, but it is very, very nice. Your new elephant fits in very nicely. My compliments for a great Durbar display.

I just read Dave's comments. Be extremely careful about listening to Dave. He is a lethal Durbar virus carrier and he will infect you with the fatal Durbar Syndrome if you listen to him too much. I am certain that not even Vampires can resist the strain. :D

Again, my compliments. Your Durbar collection is quite nice. Thanks for posting the pictures. I have enjoyed seeing the figures. And,...Dave is correct. You should consider adding another elephant to the group. ;)

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Just like Dave I'd like to know if the figures on the sides are from Britains or not. Also the horsemen in the back. Lovely figures and display. Congrats. Durbar is a never ending wonder:)

Hi VIRIATO,

The mounted figures at the back are set number 00083 The Imperial Cadets.

Basicly all of the figures in the picture are Britains except for the dismounted ones.

The 16th Lancers are nice too they are from the Crimean series and came out in 1999 set number 00076. They were in India from 1822 till 1846 They are interesting since they wear the Scarlet Tunics that William IV mandated all the Cavalry wear. This was changed in 1840 but they were allowed to keep it as a rememberance of their service in India.

I am still not sure about the dismounted troops and hope to find out who they are since they look very well done.

All the best

Dave

I would love to keep you all in suspense on the manufacturer of the standing troops, They are stamped Valiant. If Mike Hall is right the manufacturer is no longer producing

Hi Guys,

There used to be three manufacturers with the name Valiant and I believe these soldiers were made by one of them out of the UK who it appears closed their doors in 2000. I am not 100% sure of this information so if anyone out there knows something about them please give us the run down.

All the best

Dave

KV,

If it's Valiant Miniatures, they are alive and kicking (at least they were a few weeks ago when I received an order from them!). They carry a range of 54mm (primarily) unpainted white metal kits, covering all ranges and do the kits for some of the ONWTC WWII figures.

Their website is www.veltd.net

but they have an ebay shop under Valiant Miniatures or similar which does the kits at discounted rates.

If it's a completely different Valiant, then please disregard the above.

Cheers
Simon

Just read Dave's reply, and would guess that these are not one and the same then. Still worth a look mind, if you don't mind sticking bits together with glue and slapping a bit of paint on yerself.

Hi Guys,

I saw those fellows with the kits and they have some really interesting series they are producing may well be worth a look for the kit builders amoung us.

I will keep digging to see if I can find out any other information on the company that closed.

There was also a company that did knights called Valiant something which maybe an off shoot hard to say at this point but I will keep digging around and see what I can come up with.

All the best

Dave

mikey had the idea that a guy named Mickey painted them. Mickey had a shop in Sunnyvale. Don't know how he got that idea ,but there you are.

Spent some time on Hockers' web site . He really makes nice stuff. I have my eyes on a set or three. He will be at the West Coaster. I need more money!

Hi Pat-

Is it possible to post some photos of them (and your Delhi Durbar too). I also find Wm Hocker work interesting. Too bad that I do not have more money.

Pierre.
