Delhi Durbar/Indian Army various makes (1 Viewer)

Hi KV

Which Britains Elephant did you find? There was a couple of nice looking ones on ebay recently did you grab one of them up? I hope some of the other folks who are Durbar collectors will come out to play soon!

I am going to do some rearranging on the display and snap a few more pictures so I will try and post some more soon.

All the best

Dave

Hi Guys,

I have a question. I am wondering what I could use to keep the howdah on the back of the latest elephant from leaning and wobbling it sits on the back of the elephant at a bit of an angle and I want to try and secure it with out glues any suggestions?

Thanks guys

Dave

Most definately I would use tacky wax.

The Maharaja of Bikanir elephant. It was just on ebay last week.

Hi KV

Do you have any idea where I can find tacky wax? Brand name or a store?

Thanks for the help

Dave,

I looked for tacky wax throughout the area where I live and could not find it. There are similar products on the market, but I specifically wanted tacky wax. If you cannot find authentic tacky wax in a local hobby shop, I believe you can purchase it directly from Treefrog. It is very safe and useful stuff.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the information! I looked at the nearest thing to a hobby shop I have locally, Michaels and they didnt have it. I will see if its available up in Tacoma but I have my doubts. I guess I can always order it from the good folks at the frog but I sort of wanted to get it squared away quickly.

The Elephant looks really good on the display but I'm still playing around with how I want to present them. I was toying around with putting all of the elephants in a group and have them followed up by the band and the Baroda Artillery train. I'll keep you posted on what I decide.

All the best

Dave

Hi Guys,

Here are two shots of the lastest diplay with 5 elephants

Enjoy

Hi KV

Yes but I am taking some more pictures and will continue posting them here. I also have a few more figures to move around and squeeze in so I will be fooling around with the set up for a while. I figure they probably go better here than on the other thread since they arent all Britains. I was thinking about your sets and was wondering if you have any plans to try and expand on what you have?

Talk to you later

Dave

Hi Guys,

My elephant came in today also! I was so motivated by Kilted Vampires pics I took one of my latest one. It is the Marlborough Set #D1 The Maharaja of Baroda on the State Elephant. So here is a picture of it before I make room in the display for it.

Enjoy!

Dave

Great!! Now Dave, it's curious: I live in Europe and am thinking of getting an elephant from Hocker, you live in the US of A and get elephants from Marlborough ( did you get them from the UK? ):D . I guess that's what you call globalization:D and this is the good part:p

Hi VIRIATO,

Well that is a good question. I have bought several Marlborough sets via ebay which includes the elephants and others from a dealer in the US. The only problem I can see for you is the weight of the elephants. The Marlborough ones weight in at 5 US pounds which is 2.27 Kilograms so I would guess 3 Kilograms for shipping materials. I dont know what that would be for postage but I suspect it would pricey. I dont know how much the Hocker sets weigh but I imagine Kilted Vampire could tell you I also took a look at the Hocker website and he sends his orders overseas insured for full value by Air Parcel Post. With this info you can probably figure out what the cost would be.

Well I hope you find a set or two on the secondary market but they dont pop up too often so your best bet would be to contact them by email.

Let us know how it works out I really like Hockers sets and have several I am considering for future purchase.

All the best

Actually I do. My father came over and had a good suggestion for a background and I still would like to try my hand at making an elephant.

Hockers elephants are somewhat hollow. Not so heavy as Marlborough.

Hi Guys,

Here are some more pictures. I have been doing some organizing so I may have to change them again. My daughter came into the den and asked where all the elephants came from she thought the pink one was the prettiest. Oh to be 7 again...

Anyway here they are enjoy.

All the best

Why do I keep hearing the Monty Python theme in my head? When did Britains make the camel riders?

Why do I keep hearing the Monty Python theme in my head? When did Britains make the camel riders?

Vamp,

Have Dave check my information for accuracy , but I believe the following is the answer to your question:

The three "Camel Riders" in the center of Dave's picture is Britains Set #40185 - The Bikanir Camel Corps. This set was first released in 2001.

The Kettle Drummer in the back of the display is Britains Set #41100 - The Jaipur Camel Drummer. This figure was released in 2004 and constituted the final figure Britains released in its Delhi Durbar line.

I would love to add these figures to my collection, but you don't find them very often.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi Pat

You sir are correct. I would also like to get a couple of more of the drummers but they are really difficult to find. I dont know why this is the case. I suspose it could do with the fact it was a single figure set and wasnt too costly so everyone grabbed them up or maybe since it was the end of the production line they didnt make as many. Either way Pat is right about this set's scarcity, so if you come across one you may want to grab it.

As for Monty Python I thought they were into llamas...:D :D :D

All the best

Dave
