Nicholas (Scarlet Pimpernil) recently became a JJD distributor...he's flying to the San Antonio show on Memorial Day Weekend and is limited on what he can carry on the airplane to display his figures (luggage)...I'm going also...but I'm driving...it's about a 3-4 hour jaunt from my house...he let me help at his table at the West Coaster (lots of fun) and knows I like to make dioramas...I got a big car with a lot of room...so I agreed to make some to show off his figures and hopefully draw a few buyers over...I made three different dioramas...a 3 gun artillery battery for Chippawa...a field with trees, a river and a bridge for Chippawa or any FIW scene...and this one for the Sudan Wars...I'm hoping I might sell one or all of them...I put all of them in nice wooden frames that I stained and varnished...

anyway...here is the first one...I'll take photos of the others real soon and post them on this thread...

the camel is a Wm. Brit...a really nice piece too...the diorama needs a little touching up...the camera shows all the detail my naked eye doesn't catch...I'll fix those spots up tidy tonight...

I sure hope JJ starts releasing more Mahdists really soon...these guys look lonesome...

That is just about as good as it gets! What a great scene!^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool

Mike,
...I envy you! Enjoy you there for me too please, your displays are smashing, I'm sure you will be a hit with the collectors!!!

Great set up...The stained frames really set these apart. Nicholas had a great booth at MFCA with 3 such dioramas, of which I think he sold one or two. The point being this one should do real well and be a fine piece in someone's collection. Looking forward to seeing photos of the others.

Excellent Michael, I'd bet they won't be going home in your car :salute:::salute::

Cheers

I can see you becoming a diorama maker selling to collectors.Good way to pick up some extra cash to fund your "passion".

Hi Mike,

This looks great! A natural progression to your very talented home made dioramas. I hope you do well.
{bravo}}

Hi Mike. That turned out very nice. What's the size? looks close to 2 x 2 feet.

I did not know that Jenkins came out with a camel.

Very, very nice looking Michael. I think its great that you get to work with and help out Nicholas in San Antonio - one of my favorite cities - wish I could be there with you. Hope you sell all your dios . . . then I will be able to call you the "pro from Galveston" . . . and I don't mean golf :wink2::tongue:

Carlo...thank you...I wish you were coming...I would like to meet you in person...

They would be foolish not to !! Great work Michael.

Scott...I hope you're right...I would like them to enhance Nick's figures...but I wouldn't be mad if one or two of these sold...^&grin

Walt...thank you...I enjoy making them...it would be extremely flattering to my ego if one sold...

Martyn...thank you...I will need some room in my car for all the stuff I plan to buy at the show...

Mark...I really enjoy creating these...they are fun for a model maker...

Matthew

Mathew...thank you...they are all 2x2...and you are right...JJD does not make a camel...yet...it is a Wm. Brit...I meant to say that in the first post...

Mike...thank you for the compliment...I enjoy helping Nicholas...it's a lot of fun...Nicholas had me a shirt printed up with his logo on it...it's pretty cool...I helped him a little at his booth at the West Coaster...just helped set up a little bit and spelled him for smoke and bathroom breaks...I get free admission to the show...I get a chance to display and sell these dios and he told me I could bring any sets I want to sell at his table...

but best of all...I get early access to the show before the doors open to try and catch some pieces before the public gets in...^&grin

and I knew you were not referring to my golf game...^&grin

This is the second diorama I'm taking to the San Antonio show...it's also framed out really nice in a stained and varnished exterior...it's an old diorama I did to show off JJ's US artillery crew...I just built the frame and flocked it with a "static grass master" to add some realism...I like how the tiny grass blades came out...they look pretty cool and much better than the moss...I think it's a pretty versatile piece...a Nap battery...a Civil War battery...it can be used a lot of different ways...I'm hoping someone might be interested enough to take it home too...

I especially like the beat up weathered fence I added to the back of the battery...

I'll take pictures of the third diorama tomorrow and post them...I see a lot of mistakes on this one after taking these photos...these close-ups magnify all the errors...

Your dios photograph very nicely Michael. Anyone would be proud to have one in their collection.

Like the first I'm betting you'll leave the show without it....%^V%^V%^VPapaZ

Mike

Like I said once before you need to start your own business.
Maybe John's dealers would act as distributors for you.

Randy...thank you...I enjoy making them...and while I hate to part with them...I would like to see if I could sell one...

This is the third and final one I made...everbody that knows me...knows that I like to play with the Magic Water...I took some quick photos of this one...but I really didn't get to show off the detail on the river and the bridge...the bridge came out really nice...I like the weathering on it and the beat up look of it...I put a broken plank in the middle to make it look really worn out...I also added some moss to the post in the river...I may take some more without so many figures on it...

I don't like the transition from the moss to the static grass on both sides of the bridge...so I will blend it better or remove the static moss...I don't know yet...

anyway...I made it like the others...2x2...enclosed in a nice wooden frame that I stained and varnished...

I hope I get lucky and sell one and I hope it helps Nick get a few people over to his table to browse, inspire and maybe buy some of his figures...the trees are included...I may add another row...

All three dios are looking very good Michael . . . you will certainly go home empty handed . . er, unless you buy some "goodies" at the show that you can't live without . . . .
