Hello, I just misposted my New Thread in King & Country Forum. I am selling my WWII/European collection - estimated $25K of K&C items. many Retired. Boxes for most all.

I have no inventory and will post as I find box and examine pieces. If you have a particular items(s), please email me and make an offer. It may take

some time for me to locate the box/item. Thanks, Cdr Bob

This is almost as bad as the spammers, if not worse. I'm thinking the forum owners should get around 30% of this action.

We forum owners have a consignment service where we authenticate the condition of the items sold. We do make a percentage off of that {sm4}

We do not choose to get involved in forum transactions...whilst a large number of figures are bought/sold on this forum with no problems at all, we do not have the capacity to research any disputes which may arise.

Yet another K & C collector disposing of his collection. I would suggest at least taking the time to perform an inventory of what you have.

Yes they should do an inventory because nobody is going to buy anything if they don't know what the seller has or how much he want's for items.I know it can be a daunting task but not so bad if you do it a little at a time.If you have a large collection and want to sell it all together you're better off contacting a dealer and work something out with him.

King Tiger II found out how difficult it could be by doing it without a high degree organization and ame back with an impressive website.

Regarding the earlier point about this is no better than spammers, I disagree as the forum provides a space for buyers and sellers to come together. Other sites do this and it generally works well. I've purchased and sold a few things here and it's always worked well.

In regards to the opening post. GOOD LUCK!. First time poster, I got a lot of stuff, got to find the boxes, no prices or items listed, it may take a while.
In this current resale market he would do better setting up a roadside stand along a highway!

My point was that maybe you should be required to be a member longer than 24 hours before your allowed to start selling your collection to other members. This post just rubbed me the wrong way. Joining the forum just to sell does remind me of all of the spammers that have been advertising on here lately.

I hadn't noticed his membership "length" and I agree with you. People should join this Forum and participate in more than selling activities. In addition, by being a member and contributing, you can gauge whether you want to send your money to this person. Based on his one post, without knowing more I would not.

I can't agree with this...

the reason I joined the forum...was to see a small Nap collection that I acquired as a young man in New Orleans...

it blossomed into me becoming a collector...but I had no intention of collecting anything when I joined...I joined here to sell...

I don't understand the negativity to someone coming on here to sell their collection...in some cases it is a widow selling her husbands collection...or a collector needing money...or a collector tiring of the hobby...

and it doesn't matter why they want to sell...

I look at it as an opportunity to buy pieces that are retired or hard to find...

as far as longevity on the forum...or amount of posts...before being awarded the privilege to sell...

everybody on here started from scratch...what's the harm...I would think buyers would welcome sellers...

I agree with some of your points Mike but someone should be better prepared when they come on a forum, especially a collector who knows what is items is worth. Some forums won't let you sell when you first join them.

Mark...

I don't know the rules of other forums on selling...I'm a Treefrog man...^&grin...

but I agree...

a blind sale...
with no pictures...
no inventory...
and no prices...
is frustrating to potential buyers...

Peter has mentioned that Treefrog operates a consignment service...
perhaps he will PM this seller and try to work something out...

I'm guessing...
just guessing...
that there are some dealers that have already contacted him to inquire about his inventory...

but again...
this is why I joined the forum...
my very first post was to sell...

my sister...
may be on here one day selling my collection...
who and where will yours be sold?

I could be wrong, but I would guess that one of the reasons that this forum was created is so our hosts could increase their business. If someone wants to join just to avoid paying eBay, which last time I checked does not allow you to advertise or sell your items for free they should be compensated. Or as we say in NJ, they should get some "juice".

Personally I would need some trade references before I started sending strangers my money. It did not turn out well the last time I sent a money order to the agent of the deposed king in Nigeria. He just won't return my calls.

Paul...

where do you draw the line in the sand?

only people who join Treefrog to sell...should pay Treefrog a commission?

or should anyone that sells on here...pay Treefrog a commission?

I believe Peter and Shannon opened this forum to promote the business...
but that doesn't mean that anyone...
or everyone...
that posts on here buys exclusively from Treefrog...
that's not realistic...

and concerning the amount of posts a Frogger has before I'm comfortable buying from him...
the same rule applies to Ebay...
I cringe when a buyer with "0" sales or buys...
purchases something from me...
but everybody has to start somewhere...
we all had our first sale on Ebay somewhere in the past...

and lastly...
if you do manage to get in touch with the deposed King of Nigeria...
you ask him about me please...
he was supposed to deposit $1,000,00.00 in my account and I have not heard back from him yet...^&grin

To answer your question, yes I think every one that profits from a sale on items advertised on this forum should be compensating Treefrog. As a business owner I would not appreciate someone else making money from my work and potentially effecting my sales. If you say owned a store selling hot dogs and someone pulled up one day a parked a hot dog cart in front of your store what would you do?

When I go my final wishes are that my collection is to be melted into an urn to hold my ashes. That way I can be close to them though out eternity. It's either that or wife flushes me down the toilet.

that probably wouldn't be too popular with the sellers on here...or buyers...or whoever pays the commission...

we are lucky though...
our hosts have been gracious enough to even create a tab for "buying/selling/trading"...

Regarding Mike's first post, there are exceptions but I think the goal should be to become a member for only selling.

Paul, as soon as I reclaim my throne, we will be in touch!

I have seen new people get on this Forum and state that someone told them to use this Forum to sell their items and there has been no controversey in the past. It has always been a buyer beware and buy at your own risk Forum. Soooooo I say bring it on, let me know what you have to sell and what price and condition. I LOVE THIS PLACE

A lot of collectibles forums have a six-month-membership rule on "for sale" posts. That may sound like it could be a burden on the moderators, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. In my experience, enforcement of the rule is usually handled by the other members. Upon observing the rule being broken, they simply PM a mod and the ad/post gets deleted.

Flip-side... ;)

Paypal is VERY aggressive in its approach to any sort of irregularity with a payment for goods. I've never had a forum-seller try to rip me off. However, I have had some communication problems (invariably a lack of it). On contacting PP, they go nuclear with the seller, placing the onus for concluding the sale and transfer of goods COMPLETELY on them, "no if's, and's, but's or maybe's." There is a statute of limitations involved, so the buyer has to keep an eye on the calendar. That's about the only caveat involved.

Finally, I've feel compelled to mention that I've had really good luck buying items here on the TF forum. All in all, the experience has been consistently better than using Ebay for the acquisition of HTF items, ones that are no longer readily available from dealers.
