I hope we see something in the lines of the U.S. ( I have had enough with the brits!:p:D:D) Just kidding! I love the English.;):) Anyway back to topic. I really want to see the 2nd Ranger Battalion on Pointe Du Hoc, climbing ropes and ladders. Displaying that would pose a tad bit of a challenge.

I would like to think that we are going to see some D-Day Americans soon. A lot of the ones they currently have are being retired, so we are due for some. I love the Pointe Du Hoc reference you suggested. I don't know if you have ever traveled there in person, but it's an amazing site.

I have been lucky enough to visit the site and it is indeed well worth seeing, the amount of shell holes testify to the intensity of the bombardment, the action there was very brave and well excecuted.

Thats a great idea, some figures from the Rangers would be very cool,I guess we will have to be patient as the next D Day releases are still a long way off.Yes that was ME talking about being patient!:D;)

We are thinking about going to europe next year in the May-June period of time and will primarily be visiting England and the French Coast. Pointe Du Hoc and King and Country U.K. are on the top of my list to visit. Over the summer I read Rangers in World War II by Robert W. Black, The Boys of Pointe Du Hoc by Douglas Brinkley and finally finished reading Gerold Astor's June 6, 1944 The Voices of D-Day. The Voices of D-Day is my favorite and I highly recomend it because the stories are all first person acounts of all the beaches and U.S. paratrooper landings.

SGT Rock I know about the retirement thing, I just wish I was more intelligent to buy the sets when the were out. Last March I discovered King and Country at the Kings X shop ( Coolest shop I have been in to in a long time.) in San Antonio during the NCAA tournament in 2008. ( It was awesome!) They had three set with the Rangers in them DD48, DD61 and 63. I didn't buy anything because I didn't know much about metal toy soldiers at the time, but I will never forget looking at the DD48 On the beach set B.
I looked on my laptop because I wanted to find out about DD47, which I found and bought that night. Throughout the year I aquired DD61 and 63, because DD48's were abundent on every website you would go to look for King and Country. I waited too long and before I knew it all the Dd48's were gone. (Why?) Haven't been able to find one since.
Oh, and Rob Patience is a virtue but then again keep calm and carry on!

It's great that you will be able to go over. I was able to a couple of years ago and it was probably the best trip of my life. I was only able to do the American sector that trip. Some day, I hope to get back and explore more of it as well as see the sectors of our British and Canadian brothers.

I also read Rangers in WWII before my trip. A couple of other books that I read that I highly recommend are Omaha Beach and Utah Beach, both by Joseph Balkowski. They also use first person accounts heavily, so I think you would also enjoy them. Subsequently, I have read his book Beyond the Beachhead, which follows the 29th Infantry Division. On my own personal wishlist, this ranks highest for D-day, as the 29th landed at Dog Green that morning. They would pair well with the Rangers that you list above.

Hope you have a great time!

Youngster, the 29th Infantry Division is a great idea too! One of my faorite paintings by Larry Selman called " The Stonewall Brigade" depicts the actions of the men on the morning on the 6th of June.

I was told by Andy Neilson that he is planning more US Army D-Day sets including more US Army First Infantry Division figures by ladder part of 2010.

"Iron Brigade" - Gary

I'm quite sure we will see more US DDay figures. From a business standpoint they seem to sell and Andy's no fool about maintaining sales and profitability. I liked that the British/Canadian forces got recognition in 2009 - they were overdue. We'll just have to see what we get in 2010. Usually we see DDay stuff in the spring/summer.

What to look for? we can always use new landing craft, the LCA is very nice but the original K&C LCVP is dated. The beach engineer special brigades are also good subjects - the infantry gets more recognition but the engineer special brigades suffered heavy casualties in the first waves also. Pont du Hoc is also a neat idea. There is a new "Raid" series from Osprey and a recent release is about the Rangers at Pont du Hoc.

As far as D-Day is concerned 2009 really was the year of the Brits/Cdns, nice as they were long overdue, ( however more are always welcome ). With all the D-Day U.S. retirements I think its a safe bet that 2010 will be the year of the Americans for this theatre. This particular campaign is one of my favorites to collect and frankly I like all the representative combatants and am happy to collect them all, I don't view it as one or the other ( It would be cheaper if I did! ). Gee I sound like Eisenhower, can't we all get along in this alliance.
I am envious of all you Europeans who have those wonderful historical sites in your "backyard" to see whenever you want. One day I hope to see some of them too.

Cheers
CFM :)

Hey CFM,I agree.I think in 2010 we will see both UK/Commonwealth and US D Day reinforcements,Normandy is a very popular range and goes from strength to strength as 2009 proved.:)

Since I just added this range to my collecting stable, I sure hope there will be a lot more soon. I would love to see more 2nd Rangers, casualties included, paratroopers, and D+ figures. It is rather expensive to acquire some of the earlier stuff. And of course a nice LCT would be tremendous!!!

I remember Andy talking about an LCT even before Figarti had its "shock & awe." Will Andy still come out with an LCT with a Figarti version still on circulation? I sure hope so if it is 1/2 the price of the current LCT. Just waiting for my IRS refund in 2010. Anyway, I will be content with an LCM3 (which by the way he featured in one the "dramatic diorama"...a KC UK prototype made of balsa and and hard paper) to supplement latest LCA releases (Conte has one which I like but is in 1/32 scale...couldn't fit the KC or HB Sherman). Some DDs I would like to see in 2010:

WC54 Dodge Ambulance, WC63 6X6 Weapons Carrier, British Matador AEC, British CMP15/CWT-5, and the M20 Scout Car

Some good choices. K&C has done two tank destroyers, the M10 and the M18 so the M20 could work well with them. The M20 wasn't much used as a recon vehicle, it was an "armored utility vehicle", its main use was to carry the security teams for tank destroyer gun platoons.

The old WC54 from K&C was one of his best and had GREAT dramatic figures. That is a vehicle that needs an update and a new productsion run! The Geneva Cross markings and the Army Medical Corps insignia really make one of these stand out on the shelf - an attention getter. I hope Andy will see his way to giving us a new ambulance in 2010. another plus - many K&C vehicles are inspired by 1/35th models and Italeri re-released their nice Dodge ambulance kit in late 2009.

The WC62/63 series 6X6 Dodge trucks are cool vehicles. They would look nice with the guns they pulled (57mm AT gun or M3 light 105 howitzer). Since they were issued as trucks for infantry gun crews we need the gun(s) also.
