steve, i think you would enjoy, the forgotten soldier by sajer. One of my favorite books about a german soldier fighting in russia.

an outstanding book. I have read it three times. Most recently this past year while the ukrainian war has been going on. The current war kinda follows the new war
since alot of battles took place in the same spots. Just a great read for a beginner or a serious student of world war two
