I am not sure if this thread will go anywhere but I am home on a Friday night working and have just read that one of the suggestions for the naming of the Australian capital (which is Canberra for those who are not big on geography) was Sydmeladperbrisho. There was also talk of replacing pounds with royals rather than dollars. Any other dumb names out there?

I heard that they were considering remaning Redcliffe 'Martinopolis' at one time, now that would've been a dumb name......:wink2:{sm2}
Wayne.

I read once that there is a town in Denmark called 'Hell'. I was disconcerted to also read that there were many Lutherans there!

J 'Larso' Larsen

I own that town - my mother-in-law gave it to me!

Humpty Doo.

Jack, you should be able to guess where this is...

Of course anybody who knew anything about Hell let alone owned it would know that Hell is actually in Norway.

If Jack was to say "Brett go to Hell" I could honestly say "been there".

Was on a three week rail pass backpacking trip around Scandinavia. Got to Copenhagen after Norway and Sweden and then decided to do an overnight trip from Copenhagen to Narvik (above Arctic Circle) just to be able to say been there and done that plus save on a nights accomadation. Hell was on the route and not far from Trondheim (troll country as I have a 3 headed troll to prove it).

Jack and Larso thanks for enabling this been there done that (no T shirt) moment{sm4}.

Now I am presuming Dumb Names can also apply to people. So my favourites are Cardinal Sin (a real Cardinal) of the Phillipines and Satan Wu an Inspector in the Hong Kong Police.

My biggest giggle was a Chinese shop keeper in Malacca....displayed in Big Bold Letter above his shop Ah..............Foxtrot...Uniform....Charlie....Kilo....not an uncommon name around that neck of the woods.......cheers TomB

I beleive there a town in Arizona or New Mexico named Truth or Consequences.

As far as person's names go, one of the oddest may the story of James Stephen Hogg, Governor of Texas from 1890 to 1894. Popular legend had it that he named his daughters Ima and Ura. That is only partially correct: there never was a daughter named Ura but he did have a daughter named Ima.

As a postscript, Governor Hogg, following his governorship, was one of the early investors in the Texas oil boom. He was not a rich man when he died in 1906, but the old plantation he bought in Brazos County would eventually produce oil that would make Ima and her brothers wealthy.

Excellent - I don't start many threads but three deletions already in this one! Normally one must talk scale or price issues to get that kind of response!

Jack mate,
And who was it that said I didn't love school teachers, just Brissy TS dealers.^&grin^&grin
Cheers Howard

Here is an appropriate name thing:
My military school has a majority of foreign students, including many from China and Korea. We all go by last names, and this makes for skme funny secarios. When I was a plebe trainer, I had multiple plebes named He, Yu (or Yoo), and Hu (Pronounced Who). This made for some great real life Who is On First.
Yu, sweep the hall way!
Me?
No, Yu.
Who?
No, not Hu.
I want Yu to sweep.
Me or him?
No, not you He, I want Yu.
And so on…

I have left the world of schools far behind. I now lecture. For future reference, a skilled operator such a myself does not teach. I facilitate a learning experience.
