Dumb Names (1 Viewer)

I have a friend who worked in Hong Kong for some time. He had an apartment there - and his cleaning lady had the surname "Pong". Quite a common name - or so my friend told me. The unfortunate girl however, had been given the first name of Fanny by her parents - as they liked the anglicised name. jb

That's funny but I thought you were going to say her name was "Ping" for a moment.

Some French place names are quite amusing to the English, I'll let you read a map because they would only get deleated! There is also a certain German mountain with it's own light rail station!
Apparently a car called MR8 had to have a different name in France! I would be interested to know whether English places have an amusing meaning in another language. We've got to be able to laugh at our selves before we laugh at others.

I'm sure this may be one of them Martin - which isn't too far from me. When I was looking for a house around this area - I was offered one to view here - but declined to go and look at it. Rumour has it - that these road signs have now been welded to the posts - which are in turn set in concrete. Apparently they have become a favourite souvenir for travelling British Rugby Clubs - and many a sign has vanished before - at the same time as visiting touring Rugby Clubs have been returning home!^&grin

Well jb, there is a town in Pennsylvania with an interesting name where that would be quite useful, but I dare not get too close to the thin edge ..... ^&grin

I have left the world of schools far behind. I now lecture. For future reference, a skilled operator such a myself does not teach. I facilitate a learning experience.

Spoken like a true teacher. :)

Try ordering a train ticket for here then. By the time you get it all out - don't bother trying to catch the train - it will be gone!
