Dune Trailer #2 (1 Viewer)

So looking forward to this........
Looking forward to this, too. Long been my favorite book, along with the other 5 in the original series. As this movie only covers the first half or so of the book, sure hope it does well enough so that the second movie covering the rest of the book can be made. The book is done in 3 sections so two movies should do the job, something the movie of 1984 was unable to do within the confines of a single movie. Anyway, just hoping it's a decent rendition of the book, without too much movie license taken. -- Al

I don't think there's another thread for this?

I found the movie underwhelming. There were great sets and a lot of money spent on everything, making for some epic scenes. However, the action and characters seemed disconnected? I never found myself liking anyone or caring what happened to them. I enjoyed the book 30 odd years ago and there were some fascinating SciFi ideas in it. The 80s movie with Sting was ok. It was good to see a proper effort made here but it just didn't come together. It's also likely that the book has hardly been read by today's greater movie going audience and they would be even more bemused by it all.

Oh and a minor point but reflects the military misunderstandings of most in Hollywood. In the book, the attack is made by 5 legions of men recruited from the penal planet. Legions typically had 5,000 men but the term meant 'many' - so it was an impressive sounding force. In the movie it's two (or three) battalions - Oh no!! I saw a similar thing somewhere else just recently too. A more imposing term might be Corps, though division would also work. Keeping it as Legions would've sounded best. A curious piece of rewriting.
Just my piece of rivet counting....

I have to say I enjoyed the movie for what it was and also enjoyed the 80's version, however admit I've not read the book/s.

To be fair I've rarely been impressed with a movie, which is based upon a book and vice versa.

In saying that I get what you mean and appreciate your post and feedback.

I will admit too, I enjoyed the movie more the second time I watched it.

Cheers.

I'm also keen to watch the 2nd chapter. Have seen the 80's original which was a bit 'different' but still enjoyed it, some didn't like Sting, but I appreciated his acting. I actuality rate the Children of Dune tv series as being the best of the films to date. I've only read Dune, found it ok but a bit heavy, I'm more into action than character development etc.
