Is anyone familier with Eagle Design. The company out of China is making a Panzer II in 1/30 from polyresin with metal tracks. The photos on Ebay show a very well done model with great detail and realistic weathering. A Panzer Grey and DAK version are available for $95.00, shipping is free.

I am really tempted to order the DAK version!

Thanks for the heads up Horus. I find the thread you linked to of interest. Leakage and rejects from factorys are always showing up; but in this instance I am unaware of anyone else offering a 1/30 Panzer II currently. The Ebay seller has a good rating and a liberal retun policy, plus he stipulates who the manufacturer is.

polyresin = plastics ? :confused:

It mentioned in the description is NOT polystone

Polyresin, polystone and polystyrene are all plastics. Polystone uses filler materials to increase hardness and is used in cold cast bronze figures as well as model tanks. Resin is what First Legion uses in their much acclaimed Panzers. Polyurathane resins react in the mold with a catalyst to polymerize. Polystyrene is a thermoplastic that is injection molded at high temperatures and pressures and uses tool steel or Chrome plated Aluminum molds rather than soft tooling; thus surface detail is better. 1/35 scale models utilize polystyrene.

A complicated technology and it can be confusing.

Yes, theft, rejects, copying, counterfeiting goes on whether it be Toy soldiers or anything else you can name !
Please give us your opinion on the DAK Panzer II if you do buy it.
Like you I've not heard of this brand before, But then I'd not heard of Country Honor either.
Going back to that thread, as you will have seen I've previously bought from this seller Napoleonic figures of the Country Honor brand.
Certainly not as good as FL, but a lot of bang for the buck you might say, I and others have been satisfied with their products enough, If you buy these don't expect to have the same attention to detail or paint colour to be absolutely correct or some things such as undersize Ammunition pouch needing to be enlarged with milliput. But then I've often had to do minor repairs such as glue down reins on FL mounted figures which have come directly from more than one of their agents. Be nice to get perfection each and every time from all vendors, but packing and transportation, good as they are don't always protect 100%

Steve

That would be great. I assume it will be a couple of weeks?

Yeah mate, it will probably be a couple of weeks before it arrives although I'm going away for a couple of weeks from the 23rd of October so I won't see it until early November.

Assuming he doesn't mind, here is Hunter Rose's review of the tank from the HB Forum:

"Ok, I had to pick one of these up for a repaint project to complete a Kharkov Panzer column. I've been waiting years for a Panzer II and could not resist.

It's a good looking tank and the price is good. Seems to be 1/30 but I have not measured it yet.

It is not produced to the level of a FL tank. There is not as much detail, especially on the wheels (they are not crisply defined and remind me of Forces of Valor tanks.). Better detail than a K&C or TCS tank for sure. To me it seems to be be the bastard offspring of TGM, FL, and Forces of Valor tanks. The detail level screams TGM. The turret and antenna remind me of FL. And the wheels/tracks look like Forces of Valor or another 1/32 diecast tank producer."

Many thanks!
I purchased the DAK version, and will review it as soon as I get it.
The next release from this brand will be a Pz III, lets hope they keep the same level as did with the Pz II.

The Ebay seller states the tracks and wheels are metal not plastic as used by FOV. The size as stated by the seller is 155mm long by 75mm wide or 1/31 long by 1/29.6 wide; as close to 1/30 as you would find with K&C or FOV. The seller states that Eagle Design has made armor for TGM and TCS. The level of detail would support this statement. All in all a decent Panzer II for the price IMO.

I got the DAK version several weeks ago and in my opinion it's good value for money. The paint job and weathering is almost exactly the same as what you see in the pic's on ebay. The painting and weathering in my opinion is not as good as FL, K&C and perhaps even TG but it's not far off the last 2 manufacturers. I'm currently away on holidays but I will post some pic's when I get home and have some time.

Tom; are the tracks and wheels metal as advertised? Thanks for the quality accessment.

No worries Kat and I'm not sure about the wheels but the tracks appear to be metal. I'll check it again more thoroughly when I get home and let you know.
