Eagle Design 1/30 Panzer II (2 Viewers)

Hi Guys,

I know there has been some back and forth on this model and the manufacturer. I am not going to get into the history. All I can tell you is I have worked with these folks for 10+ years and they have never done me wrong. Has every single thing they have made for me been perfect? No. Have they always stood by their product? Yes. They are as good as any Chinese manufacturer I have worked with, and I have worked with many over 25 years.

As some of you may know, I picked up the Del Prado line a year ago and now have about a dozen new sculpts ready to go early in 2017 under my History Works brand. I have agreed to partner with Eagle Design to bring these tanks and a number of new ones he is working on into the US. History Works will stand behind these models. As some have mentioned in the forum, these are not $200-$400 tanks so they will not be as detailed as models at those prices. What they will be is an extremely good quality model in 1/30th scale.

They will be up on Treefrog's website this week under the DelPrado/History Works section
WW15000 Eagle Design/History Works - Panzer II, Poland and France, 1939-1940 - $99.99 with free shipping
WW15001 Eagle Design/History Works - Panzer II, Afrika Korps, 1940-1942 - $99.99 with free shipping

They all have:
Metal tracks and wheels
Pivoting turret
Elevating gun
Doors and turret hatches that open and close
Movable antenna

The first batch should be with me in about 10-12 days.

Thank you,

Richard

Great results can be achieved with those vehicles and some basic modeling techniques... Great for our poor pockets!

For an idea, with First Legion stating they may not make any more German halftracks, there is pent up demand for some German SdKfz 251 Halftracks. I'd recommend making the Ausf D version that has not been done in 1/30 yet.

At this price point I'd buy 3-5 German halftracks for repaint projects.

The Panzer II is nice and I am more than pleased with mine. In fact I just ordered a second one. Looking forward to the upcoming Panzer III. Any details on which Ausf it will be? I'm hoping for a 50mm short barrel cannon version.

Best of luck to you in this endeavor. If the tanks maintain this pricing and detail level you should be successful.

Has anyone in possession of the Panzer II verified its scale by measurement?

I would like halftracks and the short 50 myself.

Thanks Julie, looks excellent value considering metal tracks etc.

When they are available it would be interesting to know the dimensions and scale. Hopefully they will issue tanks etc from later in WW2 in due course.

There 1/30 scale

1/30 is a global classification covering armor ranging in size from 1/32 to 1/27 by actual measurement. Place a WWII FL figure next to a TCS Panzer and tell me how realistic they look! Measure before you buy IMO.

Great photo; really shows the size compatability as it should be. Panzer II, III & IV all have firing heights of about 1.828 meter or about 6 feet; so as a rule of thumb if a figures head is even with or slightly below the barrel at zero elevaton or depression the size is correct. Assuming that the Panzer models are proportional. Some manufacturers have made armor pieces that are 1/30 in length and width but the height is oversize to look correct with the larger figures. A case in point is the Figarti Jagdpanzer IV. The height is 67mm where it should be 60mm.

Yes, there's currently a minefield of 1/30 variations in our hobby providing endless debate, excitement and comedy for all, or some anyway. The "1/30 scale variation" sounds like an early episode from the 'The Big Bang Theory' comedy series. I wonder if there are models of "Penny" for sale somewhere, and at what scales.

Anyway, it looks like that little tank won't fit in with my Beefy 1/30 scale figures.

Excellent Matt; a new classification system for nominal 1/30 scale. FL & WB=Diminutive (60mm). TG, TCS and K&C=Beefy (67mm). Del Prado WWII series=Heroic (70mm) I think we should call it the OZ Toy Soldier Classification System Version 1 2016!

Well, after 35 days my DAK PzII is here, and what a beauty it is!
It follows the JJD steps, so all of you who are used to heavy KnC tanks will probably be disappointed. What I do like most is that it has basically the same brownish tone used in the DAK FL line, although FL uses a lighter tone on some zones. Unfortunatelly the commanders cupola is not large enough to fit a figure, but maybe my mini drill could help me to enlarge it...

As good a system as any Kat :) However I adopted the term "Beefy" from a now late forum member; 'Johngambale'. John preferred his toy soldiers Beefy, especially Aussies. John also liked to post regular lists of what K & C etc should produce, his main interest was in the North Africa Theater of WWII especially Italian vehicles. His lists used to upset some members (and TS manufacturers). I enjoyed his quirky lists and note that a number of his 'requests' have since been produced.

Matt; I would think that lists of desirable new products from serious collectors would be very valuable to Toy Soldier manufacturers.

I will be interested to see how large the hatch opening is in the Eagle Design Panzer II. My K&C Panzer II which measures at 1/30 has a hatch opening of 15mm; which is tight for K&C figures.

It measures 13mm...

The marks on the figures hat indicate you used a hammer to implant the figure{eek3} Great pics of the Panzer II; post the Panzer III photos with the figure too.
