A guy emails me and asks for the dimensions of San Jaun Hill Top Diorama...I provide him the measurements...he replies...

thanks so much for the prompt response. At that size, it's priced a bit high. I'd offer you $XXX. It's a fair price, given the dimensions and what a new one would cost from K&C's custom shop.

The old saying "you can't make this stuff up" always applies to ebay. My favorite is still some of the questions I get on shipping!

I go by the rule, I list something for a price I will accept to sell, maybe juiced slightly by what I expect to pay in commissions. Other words, $100 item I could sell direct, I may list for $110. Whenever I then get questions (usually nasty) regarding price, I always reply, "listed on ebay for 100, however for you, I will sell it for $175. That usually ends the needless discussion!

That said, for friends, I am always happy to barter back and forth, that is fun too~! (My real job is 100% negotiation, why I find that fun, I don't know!)

Even funnier...the San Juan Hilltop Diorama didn't sell...:D There is always the K&C custom shop where they can still be made;)

I have dramatically limited my selling on eBay these days and guess what...

Stupid questions and nasty people come my way far less frequently.

In a lot of ways, I don't miss dealing with the general public Although the stuff I've been selling lately are going to local people who actually appreciate that I made what they are hanging on their walls.

I feel the same as Gideon. I have a few items I would like to sell but just don,t feel up to the ebay BS.

Overall eBay has been fine...I would say the odds of weird and cooky questions 1 in 10 auctions...odds of difficult customers 1 in 100 auctions...odds of me receiving items damaged as a buyer 1 in 20 auctions...odds of me leaving a negative for someone I bought from who deserves a negative 1 in 350...soon to be 2:mad:...odds of me being amazed at what other auctions (not mine) end up selling for 1 in 2 :D...odds of me being shocked by my eBay invoice 1 in 1!!!
