I look for boxes to store my soldiers. As you know, I paint my own, so I get individual kits, which have no boxes.
I repurpose boxes like candy boxes from the confectioners at the Jersey shore. The boxes they use for their salt water taffy are a good size for 5 to 6 individual figures.
I spray the boxes with gloss gold paint, and I designed a label to use. I wrap the figures in tissue paper to pack them in the boxes.
I also use wooden cigar boxes, though those take more work to prepare. I live near a cigar store that sells empty boxes for a dollar or two. Those are good for things like an artillery piece and its crew, or a couple of mounted figures.
As for the commercial figures I've bought, I keep the boxes, not for value, but because they're still the best for storing figures I don't have on display.
If I ever finish all of the figures in my gray army, and prepare boxes enough to store them, I might reach the levels some of you guys have reached.
Prost!
