Enslaving The Free: The Gettysburg Campaign (3 Viewers)

I double checked and it was a plan that involved confronting not just GB, but Russia, Spain and France for violations of the Monroe Doctrine. One of those nations would get angry, war would be declared and the two sections would defend their common country.

Had they annoyed everyone some portion of the conflict might have been pursued in one or all of Asia, Europe (or more likely European waters) and the Americas. A world conflict of sorts!

I have enjoyed the discussion in this thread, debate isn't so bad is it.

I was relieved to note Brad's post where he said; "I do agree with you about slavery in the North. NY once had more slaves than Georgia, for example. Moreover, most Northern states were just as racist as the South". Prior to that post I was imagining what his next thread would be, perhaps a contemporary newspaper article about Southern Balloonists waving and smiling at Northern School children, then dropping bombs on them {eek3}

Forums are useful incites into how people think in different cultures where the laws and culture differ from where we live. For example I noted some members post that One particular generation was "the best". Personally I think such a statement is a generalization and basically untrue considering human nature hasn't changed much since recorded history. No offense to those that said it, but I feel you overlooked some things "the best" generation did wrong and haven't given due recognition to what the current generation of soldiers have to contend with. How those young men and women travel to a foreign country where they are hated yet expected to assist in the freedom of said people deserves more appreciation imo.

The benefit of these discussions is that everyone - regardless of race, creed or colour - is given the opportunity to agree with me. That should be an inalienable right of all free peoples. {sm4}

I appreciate the opportunity to agree with you, but I'm not sure if we are on the same page, can you send me a list of the books you have read, that way I can judge if you are as clever as me :tongue:

Marty, read that, didn't like the ending, seemed to far fetched to me. However I can recommend "750 Ways to Annoy People" by W. Shaffer Fox, my fav author.

Poppo,

If you want to have a serious discussion, that's fine but I expect you and I will never agree.

I've given you some books that I think are particularly important and have you asked you twice for books that you deem important as I would like to see what they are and give them a look. Of course, if you don't want to share your reading list, that's your prerogative but there's no need to get mad. This is all in the search for knowledge.

Regards,

Brad

Well, we've discussed Prof. Luraghi before so you know my views about him. Nonetheless, I would be willing to sample his works but since I don't read Italian I guess that won't be possible. Are there books by author you recommend or just his work?
