ex-tankers advise Brad Pitt M4 Sherman movie (1 Viewer)

I found a photo of a real Sherman named "Fury" in Steven Zaloga's ARMORED ATTACK 1944.
The real "Fury" is an earlier Sherman with the 2nd Armored Division shown in Operation Cobra and not an Easy 8 Sherman as in the movie.

A really interesting article - thanks for posting!

There's an extensive article in today's New York Times about the movie, which is coming out November 14, http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/03/m...tt-a-raw-look-at-warfare.html?ref=movies&_r=0

One of the up shots of the article is that war will be portrayed in a way never seen in movies.
Very good article. I see that the book 'Death Traps' by Belton Cooper is referenced. It is a terrific book and I would suggest any ETO armor fan give it a read. You won't be disappointed. -- Al

Yes, very interesting article and I would be interested to know why Brad Pitt's character killed the Jerry officer.

Thanks for posting Brad.

Film premiers in Adelaide 16th October, hoping it's as good as it looks. Robin.

Just saw some previews... looks like this is headed for another "might have been great" category film.... Hollywood!

This still looks like a terrific action movie but the insertion of the female/love interest is a possible omen.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I guess that Brad Pitt alone can't guarantee a sizable female audience, so some hollywood executives probably ruled that for better box office returns there has to be the classic girl&soldier&romance in there somewhere... Anyway, at least for me, the fact is that some of the best war movies I saw didn't have this classic corny accessory to them! :wink2:
I hope this won't spoil what so far from the traillers seem to be a good one!:rolleyes2:

According to the previews advancing across an open field, multiple tanks shoulder to shoulder, surrounded by infantry and tiger v Sherman at what looked like less than 20 yards is just too much for me....WTH!!
I mean can't you get some consultants to tell you the way it's done! Or maybe watch SPR?
PLEASE!!!!

The problem is that these movies are not being made for us old history buffs and ex military men, but must appeal to a broader, more action oriented, much younger audience with the attention span of some 5 minutes ,who without massive explosions, implausible script machinations, and pretty boy or girl actors, would not bother going to see a WW2 movie. I submit that a classic series such as Combat, would be cancelled after a short run for being too tame today..Michael

Worth seeing the film just to see a real Tiger in action. Still looking to be a good film based on the trailers. Robin.

I'm sure your right Michael, it's just sad because a truer version of war such as Saving Private Ryan did just fine and went down in history as one of the finest ever made, just wish they would really stretch and reach for something more instead of reaching for the green.

Looks like this movie will hit theaters 3rd week of October, the 17th if I am not mistaken.
