Fall of Berlin Series: Additions for Andy? (1 Viewer)

For me the 'icon' of the Berlin fight is a massive 6 or 8 inch Russian howitzer firing horizontally down the street - ouch..... Those JS2 tanks (there were probably only a few but much photographed) with the white stripe around them to stop the allies from mistaking them  (just image a Brit tanker, 'oh look thats a big sherman/tiger/pz4.....I don't think so!:) )

I'm with you on this one.Yesterday i watched 'Battlefield' Berlin and that is such a repeated image from that conflict.Huge Russian guns firing down the street throwing up huge plumes of dust, smoke and any remaing glass in surrounding windows.I must say i didn't realise the Russians lost 300,000 men in Berlin.(!)

On the 88 front (sorry Ron) if one of you westcoasters could ask Andy once and for all about it then we could put this question to bed.

Rob

Didn't Andy also tell Brad he wouldn't be making any more warbirds?

The 88 along with thhe TigerI is one of the most popular pieces for WW2 model collectors. Every company in the market (I include Dragon, FOV, 21st) has produced versions.

I'd guess that an 88 in a couple of colours, panzer grey, desert, isn't beyond the realms of possibility from K&C. But ya never know.

Well as Brad says that if it is difficult to make, maybe if Andy did decide to do it again he would do a couple of versions while he's taking the trouble?.

Rob

I cant believe I am getting into this discussion - but, if Andy has already made an 88 - why cant he use the same molds and make a different one and paint it different - he has done that before with other Tanks?

I suppose maybe he might think he can improve the mold?.I'm not sure he would make different versions come to think of it,is this something he's done in the past or is this an HB/NMA sort of thing?.

He must be Toying with us - and torturing me....:D

Me too, there are three things above all i would like Andy to make.
1.AK 88
2.Firefly
3.Monty's Grant.

After that you wouldn't hear a peep out of me ever again. That last statement is probably not true.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes that video of the huge tracked field gun firing parallel to the street, dust and chucks of pavement thrown up in the air as the thing recoils moving backwards on its tracks; now that's is the stereo-typical image of the Battle for Berlin. That and the video of the women and her children pulling a wagon in the debris riddled streets as a building collapses from an explosion and she quickly ducks down and tries to go back from where she came. But that tracked field gun. Now that would be a real center piece for any collection. That and a 1:30 "Dora" or "Thor"

How amazing is that film? How on earth did Berliners continue living amongst all that fighting?.Needs must i suppose. There is another clip in which a German woman is making her way through the chaos and she dives behind a pile of rubble, you don't see her again and when i see it i wonder if the poor woman made it.

Rob

I remember that clip too. I think she is shot, at least that's the impression I get as the narrator is talking about the great number of civilian casualties during that portion of the video. The number of killed on both sides were huge when it comes to the Battle of Berlin.

As things turned out maybe Eisenhower was wise in not going to Berlin and letting Stalin have it. At first it looked like a huge mistake, Iron Curtain and all that, but the recent events have proven to be very good for mankind, combined Germany, colapse of the Soviet Empire, etc.

I do wish Andy would do some larger pieces like that tracked howitzer or a JS2 or a Dora. They may cost a bit more than the usual tank, but the unique aspect would IMO draw in the collectors. Maybe a limited edition or something like that. Oh well, my wish list is large and I do know that you can't have it all; but you can sure try to get it all.:D

I think your right she was probably shot wasn't she.The fate of many Berliners especially women was terrible wasn't it.Some of those tanks sure would be cool from K&C.So the JS2 is that huge but low to the ground looking tank with big gun?.There sure is a huge scope for Andy if he decides to do more Berlin stuff. And as you say we may not get it all but you can't help wanting it all!

Regarding the Russian soldiers' pillage of Germany and rape of German women, especially in Konigsberg (now known as Kaliningrad) in Eastern Prussia, I recommend Max Hastings' Armageddon. It's hard not to feel sympathy for the German civilians but it was retribution for what the German Army, and the Einsatzgruppen had wrought in Russia and the Baltic provinces.

I don't know what kind of molds are used for making Toy Soldiers. The ones that were used for Model Railroad plastic injection molding wear out.
You lose the shape clear lines. So each mold can produce only so many good 1st line products.
The molds can be one of the more costly part of a production run.
My info may be out dated.
Andy jump in here and help me on this subject.

That's pretty much true with most molds Chuck, there's also the fact that K & C are always improving on their last version which would require new molds in many cases.

Btw, I don't recall seeing a K & C Afrika Korps 88 mm gun, it seems like time for one I feel :D
