Falling Interest in Trophy on eBay? (1 Viewer)

It is my perception that the Trophy market is cooling off on eBay auctions recently. The same items seem to be showing up over and over again and items such as wagons, ambulances, artillery are drawing no bids.

It also seems that Trophy Zulu War figure sales are dead in the water right now. Has anyone else noticed this?

Not really, I have a consigned Trophy collection right now to sell and it seems to be doing ok to me, no complaints. Some items take 2-4 times to sell, but they seem to go.

This is my perception too. The offerings seem bland and, for the most part, sellers are asking for very high prices. I see very little that interests me.

There are many sets that you rarely if ever see on Ebay. I have privately sold some vehicles and command sets at very favorable prices.
ACW sets seem to go at very reasonable prices other than artillery sets and horse drawn caissons. Zulu War and Sudan sets still sell but
prices have leveled off.
The truth is that there are not as many "glossy" collectors as there used to be. Trophy prices probably peaked about 7 to 10 years ago.

Couple of other points is that most of us who are Trophy collectors have a very large number of the sets, I know myself, I am looking for very few sets so when I see 80 Zulu sets, I don't necessarily get excited. The other thing is that Trophy was never cheap, the original retail was high, so I have rarely if ever found "great" deals on Trophy unless someone was unloading them. So, it seems everytime I find a set I want, it sells for a good penny to me.

I do agree, we may not be at the peak of pricing where every Trophy set was selling for large money, but it still seems fairly healthy in that they sell.

i am still picking up nice sets on ebay. the problem I see is that you have a bunch of overpriced older sets with the pinkish skin tone that keep getting run over and over again. it gets tiring scrolling thru these so I wish whoever is putting those up time after time would just stop please, thank you. also mike at little legion keeps coming through with some nice sets to bid on in great condition. I paid up a little for an indian mutiny set of sepoys firing but it is one of my favorites. I am waiting for someone to put up some red lancers of hamburg especially the trumpet major on a falling horse with a yellow tunic and red pants

What types of figures are in your consignment lot?

I have collected Trophy since the early 80's and they are the maker who brought me back to collecting. I have sold off some duplicates
and boats and will consider selling some ranges. Len made some specials for me on his American Revolution and Napoleonic ranges which I will
hold onto as long as possible. In the near future I intend to post photos of large dioramas using the classic "glossy" figures. Trophy figures blend well
with Little Legion, ATS, TedToy, Soldiers of the World/Regal and WB.
Vehicles, artillery and command sets still get a premium and some ranges are harder to find on the open market.

Michigan Toy Soldier had 4 or 5 boxes of Zulus on consignment for $130-$140 or so. They sold. I almost bid. I see Trophy selling for good prices these days. Some people just ask for the maximum & may never get it. BTW, did someone buy that Confederate Leopard Gunship on ebay? If so, nice!
