And don't worry Sandor - your hair will soon grow back again!

Best of luck - put 100% into everything you do - and you will be alright. johnnybach

Thanks to all for all the kind words! A bit more info.- I am joining the school's artillery unit, and the uniform is Chippewa grey with red facings, with a Pickelhaube style shacko (spike and all!). For those of you who have seen pictures of me, you know I had long hair-in fact, before 2 weeks ago, I had never had short hair (since I had no hair;)), so it is pretty weird not having ANY hair!
I will certainly give 100%, though this will be a bit easier in class than on the field:wink2:. I should mention my favorite subjects are history:tongue:, Latin (I love Latin), French, and math.
As to a figure, I am determined to make cadet Lieutenant in the next to years (captain?:rolleyes2:), and by Napoleon I'll do it:salute::! And you know what they say, "Nolite te bastardes carborundorum!"
As to collecting, I'm sure I will find ways to get the latest Britains nap releases even though I'm in PA{sm4}.
One reason I am going to VFMAC is that when I toured the school, I realized there were other kids who were actually INTERESTED in Napoleon and history in general. In the history class, the teacher showed us his grandfather's journal from the Bataan Death March{eek3}! Plus there are all school paintball fights.....
I have actually been to the VF show once before, but that was 4 years ago, and I think I will be there next year.

On another note, I am off to.... BAVARIA today! I had a Bavarian exchange student this year, so now I am going to visit him. The Alps are practically in his backyard, and Neushwdralesteuiinstein (you know, that big castle?{sm4}) is a short drive away!

Vale,
Sandor:salute::

As an Ehrenbayer, I'll give you some helpful words...

"Hello" (polite, to strangers), is "Gruess Gott!" (pronounced "grooess got"--round your lips for "o" but say "e")

"Hello" (informal, to friends), is "Servus!" (pronounced "sair-voos"). Also used as "good-bye". Just like "Ciao!" (which comes from the same root, by the way)

"Weissbier" is wheat beer, which is excellent, sweet and malty, and normally with the yeast left in the bottle for a second fermentation. Try it. Also, double bocks abound. Get to Kloster Andechs, if you have time.

Get the castle right--the Bayern are very fond of "Inserm Kini Ludwig", it's Neuschwannstein ("noy-shvahn-stine") ;)

Enjoy your stay in Bayern (God must be Bavarian--He made the sky white and blue)

Prost!

Hi Sandor,

Just found your thread and wanted to offer my congratulations and best wishes on your trip to Germany AND your new adventure at VFMAC.

Our toy soldier club will miss your presence this fall, but we know that you are on to bigger and better things. The artillery really has the best toys, and you really don't miss the hearing loss after a whiile. {sm2}

As for the 2012 Valley Forge Show, if we hear you're not coming, we may have to "kidnap" you and drag you there - military orders notwithstanding. {eek3}

Please stay in touch with this site and our local group. You have given us all a refreshed perspective on our common history and collecting passions, and we value your continued friendship. Say hello for me to Fussen, Germany and the castles - it's my favorite spot in the world!!!

Best of luck in your future adventures. I'm sure that someday we'll be proud to say "We Knew you when..."

I am heading off tomorrow, and the next day (the 19th) I will be at school at 9:00. I am only allowed to communicate by letter, but some on here have agreed to post messages from me that will probably come 1-3 time over the next six weeks of basic training.
I have just one thing to say before I leave:

VIVE NAPOLEON!
:salute::

Good luck to you, VFMA is a great school.

If you can make it, the HMGS Fall In convention is in Lancaster PA in Nov.
Lancaster is not far from VFMA.

Walt
