My wife suggested we go to Jekyll Island Georgia this past summer for vacation. I pouted and moaned...Till I got there!! Wahoo!!! :D:D:D Had one of the most enjoyable vacations I have had in recent memory- just had a chance to escape all the pressures and stresses I was experiencing and enjoy life and time with my family. Even accomplished one of my "life list" things- saw a little 3 foot reef shark splashing around in the waves the last morning we were there- he was just out having a blast and swimming without a care in the world. It was so great to see him.

Anyway- anybody want to share fun vacation spots or stories- love to hear them. Perhaps you like the hustle and bustle of a City like New York (or Mechanicsburg :D), like being in the deep woods like Montana or Alaska or the Carribean, etc- anyway- don't keep it to yourself- speak up!!

My future plans"
1.) Montana
2.) Scotland and England- hopefully around the London show time
3.) Rome
4.) Normandy- could work in with #2
5.) Iceland and the Scandanavian counties
6.) Greece
7.) South Africa- really want to go and see those Great White's do those breah attacks like they do on Discovery channel.
8.) Australia

Currahee...

Done a lot of backpacking around the world before and during and after Uni have an American wife so, been over their an awful lot but, we have a little place in Dunoon in western Scotland and, that area IMO cannot be beaten worldwide.

Dislike big cities on the whole could not imagine living in one now. Hope you get to the UK and visit a few places then you will see what I mean.

Of all the places I have been to my favourite has to be Germany. If my German was upto snuff I would probably move there. I spent 5 years and loved every minute of it. I would like to go back for a visit one day.

Other places I would like to visit are :-

Africa (purely for safari)
Australia
China
Japan
Maritimes
India

I think that will do for now :)

When we were first dating, I took my wife on a first class all the way trip to Italy. We stayed at the Danielli in Venice, the Villa Medici in Florence and the Grand Hotel Parco di Principe in Rome. It was far and away the best trip of my life.

I also took my wife to London (and went to one of the London Shows) where we got engaged. As a matter of fact, Mike and Sue Neville were the first people to see my wife wearing her engagement ring. London is such a great town. We ate at Scotts, so 'My Fair Lady" in a London Theater, went to the Tower, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Westminster Abby. That was also right up there.

I have been to/lived in/worked in the following countries:
Europe: France (where I grew up), UK, Belgium, Holland, Monaco, Andorra, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Czech Rep., Greece, Turkey, Denmark, Ireland and Russia.
Africa: Morocco
Asia: China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea
American continent: US (where I live), Brazil, Mexico.

The places I would recommend:
  • France (any region except North West)
  • Italy (Tuscany: Florence, etc., Cinque Terre, Venice, Rome)
  • Turkey (avoid Ankara)
  • Morocco (all the imperials cities + south towards the Sahara)
  • Ireland (West coast)

Bon voyage !

Franconia Notch in New Hampshires White Mountain region.

Spectacular.

Then there was Cheticamp Nova Scotia at the base of the Nation Highlands park. It was like a Marty Staufer film in there. Wild and untouched. But the people, well, most were not pleasant. Very anti-American sentiment when we were there.

It was one of the most picturesque places I've ever been and so much better when we figured how to avoid the people.

Lastly, Southern France. The rural areas and the country side.

Canoe trip under the Pont Du Gard, castles in the pre-Alps, the farm land, cheeses and street food in Nice and Aix-en-Provence. Olive market in Casis, etc.

Have done some travelling over the years and can highly recommend:

Egypt
Rome
St Lucia

Cornwall
Lake district
Ypres

Sun,fun,countryside or History, I like a mix!

Good thread, I'm taking notes. Favorites is in many cases impossible, so I'll go for recommended.

U.S.A. Zion National Monument, Utah, especially if you hike.
Canada: Algonquin Provincial Park, especially if you canoe.
France: If you hike-the Pyrenees-outstanding trails and interesting experiences sleeping in the mountain refuges, all the castles, and old churches. If you stay away from the autoroute, there's beauty everywhere.

Have done some travelling over the years and can highly recommend:

Arizona
