Rather than start my own Merry Christmas thread I thought I would start this thread about favourite Christmas movies.

So here goes with mine. Hope you are sitting down and not drinking egg nogg ^&grin.

My nomination is Love Actually.

Great cast änd some good scenes :

Colin Firth - scene where he proposes in the cafe.

Hugh Grant - scene where he gives the speach about UK relationship with USA and when he goes down the street looking for the girl.

Rowan Atkinson - taking his time wrapping the gift for Alan Rickman who is buying it for his mistress whilst wife nearby.

Kierra Knightly - scene where the guy is outside her house flipping his cards about his love for her.

Liam Neeson - helping his son chase the girl and meeting Claudia Schiffer.

Kris Marshall - the guy with the English accent who has the great scene in the US bar.

Bill Nighy - as the washed up singer doing the inappropriate radio interview.

and a good sound track as well.

Regards and Merry Christmas to all,
Brett

Try 'A Christmas Carol' with Michael Caine and the Muppets. A surprisingly faithful and effective version of the Dickens' classic.

I support your views on 'Love Actually' but I just cannot take Keira Knightley seriously.

Call me a 'Grinch' I hate Christmas movies... TV is poor most of the year but really poor over Christmas, give me a good adventure, war or James Bond movie every time.....:wink2:

I have allways liked 1989's....CHRISTMAS VACATION watched it that first year it came out and still have enjoyed it again over the years!
Randy Quaid just cracked me up as uncle eddie in those Vacation films.

"Scrooge" with Alastair Sim as Ebeneezer Scrooge. The best film adaptation of Dickens' story of redemption.

After that, "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Story". I remember when that first came out, and no one had even heard of it. It got legs in the late 90's, and then TBS hit on the brilliant idea of showing the movie for 24 hours starting Christmas Eve, and it's become embedded in the culture. "You'll shoot your eye out, kid!" There's also a toy soldier tie-in-watch for the dimestore figures in the store window at the beginning of the movie.

Prost Weihnachten!

Not a fan of the muppet version?

Only one, as Herr Baron mentioned, Gene Shepherd's "A Christmas Story."

However, I do like It's a Wonderful Life. That's a classic.

If we are talking movies that have been on at Christmas since I was a kid , well then Magnificent Seven, Zulu and the perennial Great Escape are films I have great affection for.

But films that are loosely or definite Christmas films would be Its a Wonderful life, Elf , Christmas Carol (Patrick Stewart version)Night at the Museum , Muppet Christmas Carol . Now some of them are not really good films but have that Christmas atmos that goes down well after a Turkey and Christmas pudding etc.{bravo}}

Nice thread Brett, Merry Christmas to you and everyone on the forum!{bravo}}

I very rarely watch TV as its pants but, you know its Christmas when battle of the bulge is on and bond movies. I grew up with my gran watching white Christmas, the bishops wife etc so, for me they are Christmas movies. surprised no mention of Die hard It always gets a play from my movie collection... a Christmas classic!!!

Showing my age here (and sentimentality:redface2:) but my favorite is 'It's a Wonderful Life', with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. Would rank Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas' and 1983's 'A Christmas Story' as my next in line. All great shows. -- Al
