The only Figarti products I have sold on ebay were the origional 54mm Marines & Japs, and I got about a third of what I paid for them. I have noticed, and tell me if I,m wrong, but it looks as though their current products don,t have much resale value either.
Is my observation correct?

I have been watching some Figarti auctions as well and noticed that they sell under original price. I missed the auction for the German gun that ended up selling cheap.

Just one more reason why toy soldiers are a BAD INVESTMENT. Unless they're made of gold.

Your quite right....and gold it doing well..;)

Here's what I have notice on eBay. 85% of my auction items are sell for just 50 cents on the dollar, as most people have changed their spending habits. If you list an item on eBay for "list price" it will just sit there and sit there and sit there.

So many people still think that the items there selling are worth full price these days, that there a dozens and dozens of the same items listed, on eBay, just sitting there.

Be prepaired to take a loss if your selling on the Bay these days. People are using eBay to look for a bargain....And I see that being the case for a LONG time to come :(

That's the way I have always looked at eBay as a place for a bargain or to find the unique, NOT as an online shopping mall.

I can only comment on personal experience, and I have gotten my price or better on 90% of what I sell. I view it as a trade in or trade up opportunity. I put a price, if it sells, it sells. I guess I am lucky as again 90% of the time I am very happy.

Of interest, a few sets (4 figure) were sold today, all around the USD$60-70 mark.

Interesting Tom, but one of your auctions say....

"Britains William Britain World War 2 Series from 2003. LONG SOLD OUT AND RETIRED. I will be listing all 24 vehicles (12 Panzers, 4 T34, 4 Shermans and 4 Halftracks) from this series this week. All are long retired, long sold out and NEW IN BOX, never displayed. Price to sell, approx 60 - 70% off original retail".

So, lets see how many of your items sell, even with your internet dealer "list" prices...you paid less than 50% of what you have them listed as....\\

So my point stands...50 cents on the dollar..

I don't mean this to sound like I know it all...but I've made my point.

I agree many people are looking for bargains on E-bay, but there are still quite a few rare hard to find items on E-bay that are sought after and take good prices. That said, I believe prices are generally going down at the moment...

First off, the ones you pick out I bought at 20cents on the dollar when I got them, so if they move out of my collection at that price, no harm no foul.

Most all items sell in the first or second go round.

Like I said before, I am not a dealer or investor, I have a price to get on a piece and if it sells for that, then I am happy even if a bargain to others. I don't do it as a business so maybe I am not a good example, but the majority of items I list sell at what I want.

One other thing, I don't do this as a business and I don't push my extra odds/ends/sales on here for that reason. And I think your 90% not selling is a bad number as I think over 10% are already selling or sold.

I think the prices on Ebay are very variable and much more than item specific. I generally look for bargains there myself and in many areas I have interest, they are few and far between. For example, there are still many DVDs and BRDs listed at above Amazon prices, and with additional shipping on top of that. Of course, they are being bought at those prices from time to time so who can say the sellers are unrealistic? Even with today's access to very detailed pricing information on many products, people by things at Borders that are above even suggested retail, much less the pricing available at so many other places. The market place is a wonderous thing.

I occasionally sell on evilbay. The only piece I can immediately recall selling that wasn't KC, was an honorbound jagdpanther- got my money back. That was a year or so ago

I agree that I think it seems to be more bargain shopping than "price be ****ed, I am getting that set", with the exception of some of the KC sets - some of the DDay American beach sets (DD47, 61 et al) seem to fluctuate greatly.

I think the days of making huge profit on retired tank and soldiers are over for the most part. As nice as some of the Figarti issues are, there just isn't enough interest in this poor economy to pluck down a couple of hundred dollars on a retired Lee/Grant model etc etc. I see a guy on e-bay who has had his listings going forever with his K&C retired Sherman, Matilda, etc. He is asking upwards of $499.00 for some of the pieces, and he will never get it. I don't buy too much anymore, but I did get the sold out BOB Winter edition ambulance, which I believe will be a much sought after vehicle, if I ever decide to part with it. I think that most collectors however, invest for the joy of the hobby, as opposed to How much they could be worth down the road.

Steelwheels...

I suppose its swings and roundabouts as some will have money for some older sets. I would venture that many will buy these 250 sets as investment also, but, the winter ambulance you mention is no different to the other apart from a bit of winter dry brushing and, as the other version appears not to be limited you could just buy one and do some painting and hey presto! a winter ambulance.

On any day someone who has cash may buy that old set and you get a good price but, its certainly not as prevalent as it was even two years ago.

Mitch, I agree, and actually stated in the K&C thread, that the summer version could easily be winterized if someone needs a Bulge ambulance for display.

Its a simple thing to do so why people are rushing to buy one and worry about not getting one. Makes no sense

It would be nice if that Russian EFR01 would show up, im looking for it and its impossible to find!

.....................................................................................................

Perhaps most collectors would prefer an original piece over a "doctored up version"?

Just a thought.

Certainly a possibility depends on ones preference. However, should one miss one of these 250 series or whatever other series banner it comes under then there are options for the collector to not miss out of at least owning identical or similar paintwork.

''Doctored'' up sounds a bit primitive. for some of the very fine painters and converters able to simply do such work and, with such a small range its something collectors will probably have to do or miss out altoghether and, IMO thats a shame.
