I am thinking about buying a FL AFV but would like to know how they compare relative to other manufacturers? Could some of you who have purchased a FL vehicle please take some pics next to a K&C, Figarti, or CS AFV? The pics would be greatly appreciated!
 
There is no doubt they are excellent. They are a little light weight wise, if that bothers you and they are smaller than the other main stream manufacturers. I don't have a comparison pic, but here is a regular old pic. I did weather and rust this Stug a bit. There is something unusual about this pic and no one ever picked up on it. ^&confuse:wink2: Alex

Hello, the measurements of the First legion AFV are a true 1:30th in scale so the size of the FL soldiers match up very well with all the First Legion AFVs, and I do agree with Firebat that they are a little smaller in scale then other companies AFV, but that's a whole another ballgame that I'm not getting into,(check previous threads on here) but if your looking for great quality/ realism/ superb painting and detail then I suggest you order one, you will not be disappointed, matter of fact in a very recent thread another member just recieved his first FL winter Panzer III if you get time you can read his comments about it as well, take care...Sammy

Are you talking about the leg sticking out from under the Stug? Looks to be painful.^&grin -- Al
 
Thanks Tom for the pic. It helped me to make up my mind. Beautiful tanks, but I just don't like the size difference with my other AFV's.

I think FL made a bold move going into true 1/30th scale. If you just collect their stuff it can be a rewarding experience, because their vehicles and figures are perfectly matched. If you want to use them with other manufacturers then you run into a problem. And then there is the cost.

I have struggled with this myself. I have about 20 figures and the Stug as you can see it they look beautiful on film and equally good in person. But I have not bought any since. I am debating my future with FL as we speak, and it is a hard decision.

I think many collectors struggle with FL for this reason. But I do love the pieces I already have. It is quite a dilemma.

Many will disagree but you can use the figures and vehicles with certain 1/32nd scale stuff and even some off scale 1/30th stuff. Take it from me I want to have FL in my collection and I am trying everything, you have to experiment. Alex
 
I truly believe that there is no such thing as ''true'' 1/30th scale. measuring many of the sets by manufacturer myself and people like Terry and Frank etc have shown what is 1/30th and what is not most of the main matt manufacturers are getting their AFV's at 1/30th scale there are exceptions to this from each release.

The figures are a difference but, how many times have we all discussed this and, often its like banging the head against a wall some, don't want to accept scale differences.

I do think that people from a modelling background where scale is exact and what it says on the box is what you get have some difficulty translating what is used for scale in this hobby.

Its not going to change so, just play experiment and see what works for yourself as an individual. I have known many people who used FOV with K&C and, now many seem happy to do that with FL. If everyone in the hobby is doing 1/30th either true, bang on or whatever else is posited to show its right were doing so then all AFV's would match up across the board. However, they don't and we discuss this with slight variations with regularity.

I agree with you First Legion is about as true 1:30th scale as you can get in this hobby.......The trouble is that most other manufacturers are not 1:30th irregardless of the claims....Other manufacturers figures are generally 1:28th for figures and have "slightly oversized" 1:30th scale AFV's to go with them....Trying to mix different products that don't match up in scale or style can become both disappointing and costly.......I have found "some success" mixing FL with Figarti's recent T-34/85 and the Figarti Winter Tiger.......but for the most part my FL collection is a stand alone product.... but I have no regrets making the change to something of better quality paint and sculpts along with more accurate scale.
 
Myself being a new FL collector, I don't really have a big problem with mixing their terrific figures with other manufacturer's AFV's even if the scale does not match up perfectly. I do think that the FL figures are basically 1/30 scale and still look good, (depending on the photo's angle or positioning of figures, etc.) with 1/32 AFV's such as FOV or 21st Cen. Also, they can look really spot on with some K&C AFVs or the like which some are approx: 1/30 scale, but just the vehicles as the K&C figures I've checked tend to be more around 1/28 and don't match up with the FL figures.

FL is not made to go with any others toysoldiers brand on this forum; special if you are trying to match with WWII series..... This is a unique brand, so pay attention before buying.

Good Advise....FL WWII is a stand alone product for the most part

Rod You used FL with a FOV Tiger with good results.

It isn't rocket science to see what FL has done, they make a fine product. Those of you are into FL heavy are pulling your hair out trying to understand why some are hesitant to make the FL plunge.

It is the size and the price. I understand their quality comes with a price and I understand all of the true 1/30th stuff. But if they were compatable it would be an asset to be able to use them with other stuff you have.......And for some the cost is over the top.

Nick and I just sold a LOT of stuff, to the tune of about 6 grand. Every day we are weighing how to apply these funds. FL is heavy in the mix, but we have not committed yet. For the reasons above.

Some are saying the Figarti T34 fits with FL, I saw the pics they look good. If I could use FL with Figarti I would be in heaven. Alex
