FOR SALE OR TRADE:

I'm wanting to sell some Civil War 54mm figures.

Will trade for Zulu War, 24th Foot Infantry or Zulu. I especially like Frontline.

My guess is approximately 20-25 years old, in my display case for about 23 years.

Were puchased in Nashville Tennessee, but I cannot remember the shop.

Can anyone identify any of these figures, their mould manufacturer?

Also any comments on a fair price I should offer are welcome, thanks,

Michael

The following thread contains Napoleonic Era and Civil War Era, 54mm, lead painted soldiers for sale or trade.

I'm collecting Rorke's Drift 54mm lead painted and prefer Frontline or WM Britain.

If interested please contact me.

Even if not interested in purchasing, if you can identify the manufacturer, suggest a price, or even an alternate means of selling, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Michael

Mike,
Civil war stuff is definitely REEVES INTERNATIONAL. I love this stuff and have a ton of it. I collected as a kid. Now the bad news, I still buy this stuff regularly between 5 and 10 a figure. Most of the stuff I bought at $5. Only a few of the boxer rebellion/samarai or one or 2 Naps cost me over $10. Now there original boxes were nothing special, however they were important for identification of each figure. Reeves has so many lines and so much in each line. They were done in the 1980s.

That said, I still love them and they are some of my favorites. If you want to sell a few, there is a few in your pics I would be interested in buying. Artillery and a few others.

Email me directly. ttdubelATcomcastDOTnet

Hey Tom,

Thanks for identifying the Civil War set. Very cool of you.

I really appreciate that and I'm pretty sure you're correct.

I read some of your old threads on Treefrog's forum that you posted along with some photos that "leadmen" shared.

Hi,
does anyone remember these "ancients" from the 1980s? My Dad used to get these for me in NY at FAO back then. I always thought they were the coolest toy soldiers. I had my glossy toy metal Britains (7000 series), my plastic deetail Britains and then my "connonsieur" Reeves matte painted. I still have all of them today and add a few here and there, for some reason the allure is still there.

Now, Reeves was all over the place as far as theaters, Napoleonic Band, CIvil War, Revolution, American, WW2 (I even have Patton!).

One thing I could never find was an actual catalog of what they did make. Does anybody have any other history to add?

Wow, I didnt even know of the K&C connection, that is cool. I have always liked the figures. I remember as a little kid going to FAO Schwarz in NY and seeing the debut of the Napoleonic Band, that was cool.

I think my all time favorite figure is the Hessian from the Am. Rev.

Leadmen, if you ever sell your collection, give me a call first as I am sure you have ones I need.

I have been lucky and picked up even more lately averaging $5 a figure which I think is a real bargain for the detail on some of them>

Thanks for all the info, I guess I have around 50-100 figures, one day when I get them displayed, I will post photos, I still think their paint jobs were "ahead of the times", why they are so cheap today is beyond me, they are truly a bargain.

Mine look very similar to "leadmens" photos, even the bases look identical.

I've researched it some on the Internet, but theres not too much on Reeve's available. I found some at:

http://www.toysoldierco.com/MainPages/SearchResults.asp?Source=Level1&Page=Playsets

At $15 to $20 a figure, they are little pricier than the ones you have been picking up, so sounds like you're getting a pretty good deal.

If I can't get anything worthwhile selling mine, I might want to add to my collection and make a small diorama.

I was hoping you might tell me where you're getting them at such a good price.

Thanks again for the input on the manufacturer, very much appreciated,

Michael

Ya,
Toysoldier co had some Boxer Rebellion stuff (I got em!) Those bring a few more bucks.

Don't blame you one bit for keeping them.

They were the "original Matte figures, however, I have a few in Glossy too.

They show up on ebay every so often and you can usually do ok as long as I am not bidding against you!!!!! Just kidding!

Tell you what, email me b/c I also wouldnt mind discussing the stuff you got in New Orleans, a few of those pieces look pretty cool

Forgot to say, my Dad starting buying Reeves for me (Napoleonic Band) from FAO Schwartz in NYC in the 80s. I think they were about $7.50 a figure back then.
