Gentle Friends,

Most of you know that I have made some feeble attempts at photographing portions of my collection. Well, I'm at it again with another attempt at improving my ability to represent my collection through digital photography. As you will see, I still have much room for improvement.

I am also aware that at one time, Shiloh mentioned a desire to see more American Civil War figures. So, Shiloh, these pictures are for you and anyone else who would like to see some ACW figures. If you have any desire to see more such figures from my collection, please let me know and I will endeavor to take some pictures of other ACW items in my collection.

This first set of pictures is of General Robert E. Lee and his "Right Hand," General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. Each figure is seated on his horse and the figures are mounted on a small vignette. I hope you enjoy the pictures! :)

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Gentle Friends,

Again, for Shiloh and ACW fans. These pictures are of J.E.B. Stuart, flourishing his hat as he rides in the breeze. Again, the figure is displayed in a small vignette.

Enjoy!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Gentle Friends,

Finally, for today, my last series of photographs of famous Civil War personalities. These pictures display the figure of General Lew Armisted as he leads his men to destruction at Pickett's Charge.

Let me know if you would like to see more pictures of my collection. Thanks for your patience and thanks for looking!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Nice pics.I think you will do fine with pics.nice job on pics Pat. I will have to retrain from Michael. Look forward to more in the future. John

Great pictures Pat. What are you using for a light source? My toy soldier pictures seem to be to dark even if I take them when the sun is shining. I am starting to think lighting is the key to good pictures. I know it's not the camera I upgraded the wife's camera from a kodak 5 meg to a Nikon 7 meg and not a great deal of difference on the toy soldier pictures. That is why I don't post them.

Really nice Civil War figures, Pat. Waht company made them?
The Figures are Imrie/Risley castings made by Sarotaga Soldier Shop in Ballston Spa NY. I have some. They also make nice Rev War castings. If I am wrong Pat can correct me. Leadmen

Hi John,

You have a sharp eye! Yes, you are correct, the figures are Imrie/Risley castings. There is no need for me to correct you. :)

I am glad you are back on line. I hope your recovery is progressing well!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi Shiloh,

I took the pictures indoors during daylight hours. No indoor lights were turned on and I was only using the flash on my camera. I have been trying to find a way to keep shadows off the pictures and to minimize reflections from the flash. As you can see from my pictures, I have not fully succeeded in my goal. However, if you saw the first series of pictures I took, you would know I have made some progress toward my goal.

I also want to challenge you to post some of your pictures. It is a bit anxiety provoking to post them when you see so many great pictures posted by other collectors. However, if you post some, much of that initial concern begins to be reduced. I am glad I have posted a few pictures and I will continue to occasionally do so as I have the time and inclination.

I hope I have answered your question. If you are looking for a more technical answer, I am sure others can supply one. :D

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat if your attempts are feeble then mine are lame. I have tried to take pictures but they appear to dark or to much shine from the flash, I wish someone would give some pointers on taking good toy soldier photos.

Shiloh get as much indoor light on as possible. I shoot usually during the daytime. Not always though.

Pat thanks so much for showing us your ACW stuff. Hope you will continue. I am currently working on some Zouaves that I cast just yesterday.. The ACW jag continues.

Hi Pat,

I have to say you are a fast learner when it comes to the camera. Very nice shots and even though the ACW doesnt trip my trigger the figures you posted were very well painted.

All the best

Dave

Pat, nice job you have that camera work down. Great paint jobs looking forward to seeing more of your work. Mike.:)

Gentle Friends,

I thought I would post a picture of another of my ACW figures for anyone who might be interested in seeing it. Below, you should find pictures of my figure of Nathan Bedford Forrest. He sits on his horse with blood evident on his sword. On the ground below him lies a vanquished Federal soldier.

I hope you enjoy the figure!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Great work Pat and Modwall no sniper ever got him. A yankee shot him in the hip at Fallen Timber and his Artillery Officer shot him in the side at Franklin other than that he killed 32 men and had 33 horses shot out from underneath him and lived to a ripe old age. He also never took the oath of allegiance.

Whats the deal with the Artillery Officer??

Apparently he took a transfer order to another command as a reflection upon his courage. So he shot Forrest in a fit. Forrest didn't take it personal and didn't have him hanged.
This book puts Forrest killing 29 men in personal combat and had 30 horses shot out from under him.
The wound he recieved at Old Town Creek in his right foot where a musket ball passed clean thru it, was said to have been the most painful and damaging. His surgeon told him he should take leave in order to heal but Forrest confiscated an old buggy propped his foot up and went about his business. One of his men reported, it"s just not right seeing the general ride around in a broke down old buggy, guideing an old nag around stumps holes and roots so as not to jostle his foot.
