For Shiloh and ACW Buffs (1 Viewer)

Gentle Friends,

I have a few more ACW figures that are displayed on vignette bases. Tonight, I add the figure of General John Bell Hood to this thread. John Bell Hood was a man of intense personal bravery. In the latter stages of the American Civil War, it was necessary to tie him in his saddle due to war injuries. I hope you like the figure.

Thanks for looking.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

29 men versus 30 horses. Not a good ratio. Now I can see the whole Forrest Gump thingy:p

BTW the makers of these fine displays are?

Hi Vamp,

The figures are Imrie/Risley castings. They were painted by a very good and very talented friend of mine. He also made the bases for me.

My friend spent a number of years earning his living as a professional toy soldier artist. He continues to do a little painting for a few people and I am fortunate to be one of those people.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Some of those I/R Castings are worth every penny. May be I should check them out again.:)

HE used to specalize in cutting down Union officers with a saber since it was their preferred weapon. That means close work thus the high horse casualty rate. You have to respect the people who bring a big knife to a gun fight.:D

Gentle Friends,

Just when you either thought or hoped I had run out of ACW figures to post, I found another. May I introduce you to Col. John Singleton Mosby? He sometimes is known simply as "The Gray Ghost." He created huge problems for the Union Army and a large reward was offerred for his capture or proof of his death. The counties in which he operated were frequently referenced as "Mosby's Confederacy." He is an extremely interesting ACW personality to study and his exploits are legendary. Here, then, is Col. Mosby. I hope you like the figure.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Gentle Friends,

Several of my forum friends have noted that all the pictures I have posted on this thread are of Confederate figures. They have asked me, "Don't you have any Union guys?" The answer is, "Yes, I do, but I have just not yet photographed them." Since I had my camera out yesterday, I snapped a quick picture of one of my Union sets. As I was in a hurry, I did not remove the set from my curio. When I have more time, I will take some better pictures of the figures.

Actually, there are two sets depicted in the picture. They are: Frontline, set #DC01, Union Dismounted Cavalry and Frontline, Set #DC06, Horse Holder with 2 Horses. The Dismounted Cavalry set consists of six kneeling figures, three of which are aiming and firing their rifles, and the other three are reaching into their cartridge belts for ammunition. The Horse Holder set can be seen behind the kneeling Cavalrymen. In my opinion, the Horse Holder set brings the two sets alive. One set without the other seems incomplete to me.

At least, now you know I have both sides of the Great American Conflict represented in my collection. I hope you enjoy the figures.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hey Pat, those are nice looking sets. Thanks for snapping them for us.
The only downside now is that I feel compelled to get a cleaning cloth and some glass cleaner and attack my cabinets. Next time, can you leave it a little so there is a layer of dust / fingerprints, so I don't feel quite as guilty?

Simon

Gentle Friends,

It has been a while since I have added to the forum any pictures of my ACW figures. It happens that I have unpacked a few ACW sets today as I work toward filling the curio cabinets in my new display room. I thought you might enjoy seeing some of them.

Firstly, let me show you a picture of Conte's Set #ACW57119, Confederate Artillery and Gun Crew #1. It is a fine set, of which I am very proud. I hope you like it.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Gentle Friends,

What would all these Gun Crews do without Conte's set#ACW57121, Confederate Artillery Command Set? Below, you should see a picture of the Command Set.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Pat Nice pics for a guy who said he did not know what he is doing!

Pat I must agree with my Lord General seems you've unerrated your photo taking again my gentle friend. Looking forward to more as they become available while being unpacked and set up....The Lt.

Gentle Friends,

When these sets are placed in the proper relationship to one another, they form what is known as "Rolling Thunder." In my opinion, Rolling Thunder is one of best ACW products Conte produced. From my perspective, it make a very nice diorama.

I have also included a couple of close-up views of Rolling Thunder so you might examine some of the drama taking place. I hope you have enjoyed seeing the figures and sets. I am very fond of the Rolling Thunder series and it is now proudly being displayed in my home!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

That really makes an excellent diorama. That may be the nicest Conte product I've ever seen.

That is one set that I really wish I had bought. Still I will have to work harder on my mini dios for awhile.

Well fill my belly with black-eyed peas I've actually stumbled upon an ACW thread and here was I thinking that I was the only Reb on Treefrog (apart from KV of course).
I've scanned this thread three times now and can safely say there's not a single AV or BoB or AK or Arnhem figure anywhere to be found. Unbelievable!

Great pictures Pat and those old IR figures still stand up to be counted today, also agree that Conte Rolling Thunder was one of their best. Keep them coming you most certainly have my attention.

Which reminds me I read an article recently in a Toy Soldier magazine which stated that the most collectable toy soldiers in the US are the ACW series (all manufacturers) now if that's the case and I have no reason to doubt it, How come the're not on Treefrog or is there another forum somewhere that is predominantly Reb&Yank and not just Krauts, Paratroopers and Tanks?
