Mitch, I think you are spot on Mate. It doesn't have half of the appeal {eek3}of the Typhoon....which I will buy ! {sm3}

Think K&C should of gone with a silver P-47 with black & white engine cover , D-day stripes & bombs & rockets

They didn't call it the "JUG" for nothing. Actually not all P-47's are that ugly Mitch IMO, but this particular one isn't exactly the best looking paint scheme to have chosen.

QUESTION on AF017-- For USAAF Flyboy fans!

I received the fellow on the bike today........being a NY Yankee hater, I had every intention to repaint the hat with the Boston Red Sox Logo and repaint BEANTOWN BOMBERS on the back of the jacket. However,In the box also came the flyer noted below, and much to my surprise was a figure I had not seen before...a companion to the misguided fellow on the bike............looks like he has a Red B on his hat.....can this be what i think it is??? Also........not clear what is printed on the back of his jacket either, anyone have a close up photo or some knowledge of what it represents. I'm like spitting up i am so overly excited about the possibilities.....please advise so I can get my heart beat back under control.

Well, I think it makes sense the Yankee fan is on a bike. The other guy probably drives a nice jeep.

On another note, I think the silver P47 would have looked better, and I wouild loooove to see a silver P51 in the future.

I really like the Thunderbolt, my only question is could I display it with my mustang or would they come from different eras of the war?

I agree, I'm just waiting for K&C to do a silver American warbird and then I'll scoop up most of the USAAF troopers......however as a long suffering O's fan I'm not sure I could live with Yankee and Boston capped figures in my collection!!! ^&grin;):D

They are from EXACTLY the same era and theater. The "Jug" may be considered the later of the two as it sports invasion stripes, these started appearing in early June, just days before D-Day. K&C's P51B is marked after an aircraft that became famous earlier in 1944.

As a "rule of thumb" the Eighth Air Force, the strategic bombing force out of England, re-equipped with Mustangs and added new units with P51s - they needed the long-range escorts. The Ninth was the first to get Merlin-engined Mustangs, but used P47s longer as they were the tactical arm that provided groud support and interdiction missions. The P47 wasn't "pretty" but it packed major firepower for ground strikes and could take a beating.

So the P47, P51, and P38 all served alongside each other in Europe.

Not a "lump" that you want to on the receiving end of! She doesn't have the sheer grace of the Spitfire, but at least it doesn't do a Jay Leno inmpression like the Typhoon :)

The T-Bolt is handsome in its own way. Kind of the John Wayne of fighter aircraft.

The logo looks like the National League Boston Braves to me, the last team Babe Ruth took the field for. -- Al
