I have several albums with photos taken of dioramas at historical sites, and now I'm finally able to share these on the forum as I intended. Without further ado, the first photos are of a great display in the museum at George Washington's Mount Vernon, depicting the Battle of Fort Necessity (July 3, 1754):



French and Indians fire into the fort from the cover of the forest.






Young Washington conducts the defense of the beleaguered garrison.

very nice set up...I love it...

Fort Necessity was done early in George's military careers...it was probably the worst location to erect a hasty built temporary fort as you could imagine...built in close proximity to a surrounding forest providing cover for any attacker...when the battle began...the French just hid behind trees and had their time to shoot in safety...one of George's blunders in his illustrious career...

This is a great diorama of an interesting battle early in Washington's career. It really gives a feel for how precarious the fort's position was. Thanks for sharing.

A great diorama! I have visited the fort and, according to historical accounts, Washington was lucky to have left the battlefield alive! Had the French commander not agreed to surrender terms that permitted Washington and some of his men to leave the fort under colors, they most certainly would have perished at the fort, or been taken captive and disposed of later. Unfortunately for those men who were too wounded to leave the fort (and as condition demanded by the French commander to allow Washington to leave the fort unharmed), they were summarily murdered by their captors.

For those interested in this period of military history, I highly recommend you visit the fort in western Pennsylvania and learn about the events at Jumonville Glen and the subsequent battle at Fort Necessity.

I've been to Fort Necessity National Battlefield as well, and yes, it is absolutely worth a visit. Nice visitor center, great staff, beautiful part of Pennsylvania.

Perhaps many of the Battle of the Monongahela fans already know this, but Braddock's Grave is also preserved by the park.
