Forthcoming ACW (1 Viewer)

I own both and have watched them to death. As much as I like Gettysburg, God's and General's, though very dialogue heavy, had a more visual and emotional impact for me. The battle of Fredericksburg was excellent...There is the 3rd movie coming to a theatre near you from Gettysburg to end of war..As for Gettysburg, since I only live 50 min. from there, I liked the fact that some of the movie was shot on the actual battlefield....Tom Beringer as Longstreet was too stiff, Martin Sheen was fine as Lee....the Picket character was excellent ( in fact ,he played Stonewall in G and G )..Movie moments has now concluded.......Michael

I thought Robert Duvall was a better Robert E. Lee and he is Southerner too.

Have you seen Frontline's Civil War stuff? I think its head and shoulders better than Conte's stuff.

Louis:

Frontline has an old fashion style to it - which is fine - but, for life-like I think Conte has the edge. They lend themselves better for a diorama in my book.

Michael,do you know the name of this third film.?Ron,i'm guessing you've got Ken Burns civil war series.?.Someone bought me the dvd set and i love it.Very good intro to ACW.

Rob

I don't know much about the ACW to be honest but I do love the film Gettysburg.
Theres are some great scenes in it. My favourite being the Battle of Little Round Top when Chamberlain's line is battered and close to breaking and he orders a bayonet charge. That really made the hairs stand up on my arm.

I also really like Sam Elliot as Buford. But then he's always a cool actor ( especially We Were Soldiers)

Special acting mention must also go to General Longstreet's beard. I think it was up for best supporting performance that year. :)

I love his response to the soldier who constantly remarks what a nice day it is when they are back at base.

The battle's over. Hundreds are dead and dying and Sam Eliot says:

Now that's a *****ng nice day

What a line!

Yep - Got it and it is great. Although a few historic mistakes in the film - otherwise simply great. :D

WWI - really? I would think WWII with all the bombings in the Battle for Britain would be on the top of the list??

Whilst the Battle of Britain will always be at the top of the list as it were, there was something uniquely terrible about WW1 that it scarred this country for generations. The Battle of Britain is more celebrated as a victory of course. And god bless our pilots for winning it!

"Never in the course of human endeavor have so many owed so much to so few." Winston Churchill is one of my personal heroes, along with FDR, and both were amazing speakers. Where are leaders like that today?

No probs Ron, send me your address.I am next there on 19th Feb(sorry i can't get there before then) so will pick you some stuff up and get it off to you.

Yeah it wouldn't have been the same without Ben Affleck showing up. Pity Josh Hartnett was back home getting intimate with Ben's girl. :)

Mind you it was Kate Beckinsale, so you would wouldn't you?

Hey Louis,i'm not sure if you've already been, but if you come over to London at some point they have just opened a new churchill museum at the cabinet war rooms and its very good.Well worth seeing
