Many battles from ancient times to the present day involved fortifications. Roman Fortresses, Medieval Castles, Star Artillery Forts and WWII Bunkers have all been produced for Toy Soldiers by K&C, FL, JG Miniatures and Barzo among others. Many collectors have built their own forts and castles to go with their figures.

What dioramas have you made using fortifications bought or built?

I can contribute a few photos to that subject. Sapper.

Both these dioramas are long term projects that still need figures to be added and I try to do that when I don't have any immediate purchases which is about all of the time.

Some of my fortifications.....:salute:::salute::

A Roman Gate and Medieval Castles; both built and bought.

Mine had Red roofs too, until I repainted it a slate Blue. The roof on the large tower is from a Playmobil castle, also repainted; as is the rock base of the castle. I like the grey color rather than the original orange/ brown. The Red roofs were a bit too bright for my taste. The castle was made by BIG in Germany in the 1960's and marketed as King Arthur's Castle. The castles are still available on eBay and I purchased my example for $50.00 in its original box with about a dozen 60mm figures. I think they make nice display pieces, when repainted in more realistic colors! The Elastolin castles are more realistic; but this one I find appealing and far less expensive than Elastolin castles; which can cost hundreds of dollars.

Mine has red roof tile and a brown rocky base.

I small section of a French Foreign Legion fort:

A large French Foreign Legion fort, which I have since sold. This picture featuring Conte North West Frontier figures was from when I load

A section of a Roman outpost -- this picture is from when I lent it to Crown Military Miniatures, but I have been thinking of picking up some Jenkins and TGM figures to man it. I do need to do some more weathering.

I still need to dig up pictures of the best fortification of all time, the redoubt I built with my father.
