Hello all,
it is my great pleasure to show another figure I recently received from fellow forum member "beating retreat". It is "Frederick the Great", Leader of the Prussian forces in the 7-years War in Europe.
The kit is from Tradition of London and the painting style is John's very own "superior gloss".
Shown below are two photos, one of "Old Man Fritz" himself and one along with one of his commanders, General von Seydlitz.
A few more photos I have added to an album of comissioned work, which I created tonight, showing Tradition kits, painted by Jeff (aujj65) and John (beating retreat).
Hope you like them.
Konrad

Very nice looking pieces there Konrad, though not surprising having seen some of John's other work on here. You are in possession of a growing collection of nice commissioned pieces from some very talented people. Thanks for sharing these with us. :)

Hi Konrad,

It is amazing how much life Jeff and John can breathe into these wonderful figures. You are extremely fortunate to be able to include some of their work in your marvelous collection. And,...

We are extremely fortunate that you have chosen to share their work and your collection with us! Thank you for presenting them to us. They are terrific figures!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thank you for the nice comments, Dave, Russell and Pat.
I am very happy with this part of my collection (the commissioned sets from Jeff and John) and a bit proud too :)

Konrad,

These are very nice figures, a different style of painting to mine but very effective! :)

Jeff

Btw, like the album, I suppose the lone French Indian is in need of some company then?

:D Yep, we would not want to leave him all alone against all the Redcoats, Rangers and Indians, would we ? :D

I agree. Very nice pieces.

Can we have a photo of v. Seydlitz from the front, please?

Here's a front view from Seydlitz.
Andanna, if you check out my album you can see more views.

Fantastic job John does! I've said it before, his method achieves a look that looks almost like fired ceramic. Those are a wonderful addition to your collection, Konrad! Makes me jealous ;)

Prost!

Brad is so right about the eyes. Often I'm bothered by the excessive amount of white in the eyes of matte figures. It doesn't feel like this is what I see in real life. Here the eyes are just right.

I guess the logical conclusion to this is that gloss figures are more realistic :D

Really incredible.

I've always liked that highly detailed paint finish in gloss. There is something laquered looking or varnished. Kind of like the coating which be applied to paintings of that time period to protect them - that little shiny veneer.

Please post more pics!

Thanks, Gideon,
it will be a few more days and I'll have my hands on another figure for my "Frederick the Great" display and I'll be more then happy to show him here.
Konrad

Well, it went quicker than I thought and I am very happy to annouce the third figure for my "Frederick the Great" or "7-years War Prussians" diorama.
Another commander showed up today and it is General Von Werner who was in charge of the "Brown" Hussars.
This is another kit from Tradition's Model Soldier line and "beating retreat" put his brushes to it and worked his magic again.
Please have a look at the pictures below and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Konrad

Two closeups here of the new arrival, one of the horse and one of General von Werner which shows a good facial expression again that ususally is hardly seen on glossy figures.

At last, the three current figures together, Frederick the Great, General von Seydlitz and General von Werner.
Now with all these Commanders on site I guess it is time for some troops to join them, but that's in the next episode :).
Stay tuned!

Konrad, nice collection of figures! John's gloss finish on these certainly make the detail stand out.

Jeff

Are you sure there isn't a Regt of Green Hussars?

Not sure, Jeff,
but if there were that would make it an "exclusive" comission to you :D

Hi, Konrad, thanks for the heads-up on your posting, he did a really fine job on Werner. I agree with you, the detail that he gets with the face is incredible.

I still say, his style really does look like fired ceramic. I think it's in the glazes, but also in the way it looks like he does some very fine or very subtle washing. Really great!

Oh, and for Jeff, there was a Green Regiment, that was the First, also known as the "Prussian" Hussars, since they were the very first raised, or also the Kleist Hussars, after their commander in the Seven Years War. They wore "canary green", a nice bright green with a hint of yellow to the tint.

A nice collection of figures, Konrad, congratulations!

Prost!
Brad
