Konrad (kogu) has also asked me to paint a set of figures for him on a How-To basis. As we all know the French Indian War is one of Konrad’s favourite periods, so this is going to be another artillery set but this time depicting French Artillery FIW 1750’s. Tradition of London again makes these.

Unlike Rob and Brad’s projects, there isn’t any leeway on colours and so will be painted as depicted. However this will still be fun to do.

These are the castings, each comes in it’s own bag with a colour photo of the finished figure as supplied by Tradition.

Here we have all the figures and cannon cleaned up and assembled with gel type super glue. As with all the new releases from Tradition there was very little flash to clean off and the detail is very crisp.

Figures after a couple of light coats of grey primer. Will start to paint these in a few days time so the undercoat can thoroughly dry.

Looks great, Jeff,
you are one busy man. Very interesting to see the different projects you are up to right now. I am especially interested in seeing how the Jacobite Highlanders will come out.
Thanks a lot for these nice threads.

Hi Konrad,

Glad you like it so far :) These are very nice group of figures and I'm sure will look nice in your collection.

Yes, busy but at the same time it's easier really as one colour can be painted on three different projects and then move onto the next whilst the first is drying and so on..........anyone for a Tartan Camel?:D

Jeff

Konrad,

Have started applying the main colour to the figures and cannon. I added a dash of green to the red to darken up the carriage of the cannon and I will follow the colour guide (Traditions) and paint the barrel in black, unless you prefer an alternative.

Looking good, Jeff,
the cannon barrel in black is just right.
Am glad "green" didn't come to mind like for Brad's camel :D

Do you find that you can't wait until you've got the faces painted? For me, that's when my figures take on a life of their own.

These Tradition kits are great, too. It was a Godsend for me, since one of my main areas is the Seven Years War. There were no really good figures, that I could find, in larger numbers. The British and French infantry are well-cast, and paint up into nice sets. It would be nice if Tradition were to add some Prussian figures, and maybe Austrians, too, but at least now, I can put together a company of hatmen, and of grenadiers.

Please keep us posted with your SBS!

Prost, beianand!

Brad,

I agree, faces make the figure (but we are a little way off yet ) and I enjoy painting the Tradition kits. They make Prussians in their model soldier range so I suspect that they may add these to the toy range.

Sorry Jeff if you've already said this in one of your other posts, but where do you buy the Traditon castings - from Tradition of London direct, or do you have a favorite supplier here in the States?

I'm English and live in the south east of the UK, so I buy directly from Tradition.

Hi, Dragoon, I don't know where you're located, but I get my Tradition figures from Dutkin's Collectibles, Cherry Hill NJ. They do mail-order, and they go to a number of shows throughout the year, too. Their website is http://www.dutkins.com/

Prost, beianand!

Thanks Jeff and Brad for your responses. I'll give Dutkin's a try. :)

Konrad,

Things are beginning to happen, had an hour spare today so got the spray gun out :D
A second coat of red was required on all of the figures and then the coats of the Officer and Sergeant had the blue applied. Next the white leggings had 2 coats.

A few more colours to be added today. I hope you like it so far.

Konrad,

Hope you are happy with the progress so far; if there is any colour or detail you would like to change please feel free to mention it.

Black is used for the shoes along with the cannon barrel and ironwork. Bases get the treatment next, I have painted these a ‘stone’ colour as the battery is supposed to be on a rampart or similar.

All your work is outstanding and Konrad will be adding quite a treasure to his collection. You are an inspiration to us all.

Cheers Randy, not sure about the inspiration bit though.

Thanks

Jeff

I thought I was the inspiration for getting him back into painting :eek::D

Very nice, Jeff,
you picked the colors right and I don't want to alter anything as there wasn't a variety on french artillery uniforms of the period.
It's amazing how the display "grows" with every step you take.
Thanks a lot!
Konrad
